2020 NHL Mock Draft

Posted 3:40 PM ET | Comments 9
The NHL playoffs are in full swing and with no set date for the NHL Draft here is my Mock Draft and how I see things playing out.

1. New York Rangers: Alexis Lafrenière
This may be the easiest pick in the draft. The Rangers get a top line left wing who can blossom under Artemi Panarin’s tutelage.

2. Los Angeles Kings: Tim Stützle
The Kings are rebuilding and need to add young talent to their aging core. They add a dynamic offensive player who can play center or wing and raised his stock with a great World Junior showing.

3. Ottawa Senators: Quinton Byfield
The Senators are in a great position with picks three and five. Byfield falls to them and gives them the potential first line center they need.

4. Detroit Red Wings: Marco Rossi
After drafting German Moritz Seider last year, the Red Wings draft another European in Rossi. The 5’9” Austrian led the OHL in points and is the perfect solution to Detroit’s second line center problem.

5. Ottawa Senators: Lucas Raymond
Everywhere I look I see analysts penciling Jamie Drysdale into this spot. I don’t see it. The Senators already have Thomas Chabot as their Powerplay quarterback and have Erik Brannstrom on the way. The Sens go with Lucas Raymond, a Mitch Marner clone.

6. Anaheim Ducks: Jamie Drysdale
The Anaheim Ducks have built a great prospect pool over the past few years. And with the team rebuilding what better way to continue the process than adding the top rated dman in the draft. Drysdale will run the Ducks powerplay in the near future with Sam Steel and Trevor Zegras.

7. New Jersey Devils: Alexander Holtz
The Devils banked on the addition of P.K. Subban and Jack Hughes to get them back to the playoffs, it failed. With their first pick in the round the Devils go with Holtz. Holtz is a true sniper who could replace Kyle Palmieri if they decide to trade him or he walks in free agency down the road.

8. Buffalo Sabres: Jake Sanderson
The Sabres have a true number one dman in Rasmus Dahlin and a number one center in Jack Eichel. The only problem is filling out the rest of the team. The Sabres dip into the USNTDP and take Sanderson. Sanderson could be Dahlin’s future d partner or anchor the second pairing. Sanderson is a good two-way dman who is physical in his own end.
