The Oilers announced today that they have signed Leon Draisaitl to an 8 year 8.5 million dollar deal.

The good news is the Oilers have inked Draisaitl now as opposed to training camp or later. With this signing the Oilers roster looks to be locked. The Oilers will have their second leading scorer from last season for the next eight years with Connor McDavid.

When the Johansen 8 million dollar deal was announced I expected that was the ceiling for the Draisaitl deal as Nashville was buying many more years of free agency buy sadly that was not the case. Draisaitl performed incredible with McDavid but the long term health of this team needs him to drive a line on his own, something that has not yet been proven.

The Oilers have roughly 8.3 million dollars left in cap which I imagine won't be touched until trade deadline.

Whay say you Oiler fans, what do you think?

Great deal in my eyes. Has Pittsburgh ever complained about Crosby and Malkin? Dynasty foundation in my eyes.
