The 2009-2010 season wasn't a very good year for rookies. No star breakouts.

Being a Buffalo fan, I love Tyler Myers. And I believe he did deserve to be the rookie of the year. However, I think that someone that could really have given him a run for his money is (*Cough* Tyler Ennis *Cough*) the NY Islanders' own John Tavares.

Let me break this down into why he's an underrated rookie.

John Tavares 2009-2010 stats - 24G, 30A, for a total of 54 points in 82 games.
Let me compare this to a few of Buffalo's key players in the 09-10 season.

Jason Pominville - 24G, 38A , for a total of 62 points in 82 games.

Derek Roy - 26G, 43A, for a total of 69 points in 80 games.

[B]Thomas Vanek 28G, 25A, for a total of 53 points in 71 games.

Now what you're probably thinking is "so what?". Well. Pommers and Vanek showed up in the 05 season, Roy in 04.

John Tavares is a rookie. Putting up numbers close to that of a team's top 3 key component skaters.

Expect big things from these following young stars:

Tyler Myers - He was the rookie of the year, and he looked solid in the pre-season games I've seen so far. Expect good things from him, and watch to see who he's paired up with on the D-line.

Tyler Ennis - 10 NHL games played, 9 points. Enough said.

Nino Niederreiter - Along with a very fun to pronounce last name, he looks very promising. I expect him along with Tavares to make the playoffs.
