The great thing about the internet is your opinions have a time stamped track record. It’s easy to look at events after the fact. It takes someone special to precog events before they happen. That’s why I should be the next hockeybuzz.com blogger and have decided to throw my two cents into the ring. Here’s the proof . . . . for the most part:

DRAFT JVR/SIGN BRIERE AS A UFA June 7, 2007

http://www.hockeybuzz.com...hread.php?thread_id=20449

"It also means drafting for something you can't teach, size. That means VanReimsdyk to me, who's also a talented finisher, proven in big games."

"Briere is exactly what the Flyers need. Briere is my first choice as a #1 center."

It’s still pretty obvious the Flyers will be in need of JVR’s size and skills when he’s ready. While Briere slumped badly for a couple months, he’s coming back and I think we’ll like this deal over the long haul.

RICHARDS ON WAY TO BEING #1 CENTER/DON'T SIGN SOURAY April 15, 2007

http://www.hockeybuzz.com...hread.php?thread_id=17876

"The role Richards grows into may very well be No. 1 center. Richards averaged close to .8 points per game after the All Star break playing mostly with checking line wingers. A point per game gets it done as a No. 1. Let's see if he can grow into that role."

"And Souray?! Don't want him! He's a catastrophe in his own end."

No one anywhere in the media was talking up Richards like this in the media. No one! As for Souray, ask any Canadiens fan if he’s missed.

FIRE HITCHCOCK October 24, 2006

http://www.hockeybuzz.com...thread.php?thread_id=5927

"The Ken Hitchcock era in Philly is over and I say good riddance."

I soured on Hitch badly at the end, even while apologists claimed it was a mistake to let him go. These guys get paid for their opinions???!!! Visit the link above for my eloquent goodbye to the fraud known as Hitch. Granted, it’s after the fact, but it is my finest hour as a writer!

BRING UP PARENT February 12, 2008

http://www.hockeybuzz.com...read_id=35455&page=35

"Bring up Parent. I watched him some tonight. He's an upgrade over more than one defenseman the Flyers had in the lineup tonight. I know it's the AHL, I'm telling you he does the little things the right way that too many Flyers Dmen are not."

I’d heard the myth and then got to watch him play while also watching the Flyers blow one on Long Island. Next day, Parent was a Flyer and Flyers fans everywhere sleep better at night.

Some other positions I’ve taken that I can’t find links for or am too lazy to dig for them, so you’ll have to take my word for it:

CARTER IS COMING ON:
I’ve been talking up the improvement in Carter’s game since he was named 1st Star vs. Minnesota in early December.

PUT JOE MULLEN ON THE FLYERS STAFF:
He was brought in after the coaching shakeup and started with the Phantoms, and I thought his offensive savvy would help the big club more. This year, he’s up and the power play has been a weapon.

LEAVE STEVE DOWNIE ALONE!
Even some Flyers fans joined in on the Downie bashing, especially after he was irresponsibly and personally attacked by a local “journalist.” Since then, he’s been a part of the big club and at times has looked downright great. And no animals have been harmed . . . except the mouse under Jason Blake's eye!

So there you have it. Have I been right about everything? Hell no. Kimmo Timmonen has far surpassed my low expectations. The Devils haven’t struggled like I thought. Pittsburgh rose in the standings after Crosby was hurt. That’s the great thing about hockey, it’s full of surprises. But wouldn’t you rather read someone who’s right more often than the traditional media? That’s what the internet is all about!

Very good blog. Although I can't agree with any of the comments on Hitchcock.
