I hate you, Toronto, ON • Canada • 27 Years Old • Male
With the 07-08 season on the rise, I wanted to post my predictions on the top 30 players in the league for scoring. I bet you can bet who is first on the list, I'd be totally and utterly insane not to put him there.

NOTE: I'm just going to assume everyone plays 82 games. But it ain't happening and I already know that, amigo's.

Top 30 Scoring Leaders:
1.Sidney Crosby: 51 G 133 PTS

2.Joe Thornton: 21 G 112 PTS

3.Dany Heatley: 53 G 109 PTS

4.Marian Hossa: 45 G 106 PTS

5.Alex Ovechkin: 56 G 105 PTS

6.Vincent Lecavalier : 46 G 101 PTS

7.Jarome Iginla: 44 G 98 PTS

8.Martin St.Louis: 41 G 98 PTS

9.Ilya Kovalchuk: 50 G 97 PTS

10.Jaromir Jagr: 39 G 96 PTS

11.Joe Sakic: 33 G 95 PTS

12.Marc Savard: 23 G 95 PTS

13.Marian Gaborik: 46 G 94 PTS

14.Jason Spezza: 42 G 94 PTS

15.Pavel Datsyuk: 28 G 94 PTS

16.Evgeni Malkin: 36 G 93 PTS

17.Daniel Briere: 34 G 92 PTS

18.Thomas Vanek: 43 G 91 PTS

19.Olli Jokinen: 37 G 90 PTS

20.Alex Tanguay: 24 G 90 PTS

21.Mike Cammaleri: 37 G 89 PTS

22.Micheal Nylander: 26 G 89 PTS

23.Paul Statsny: 30 G 88 PTS

24.Jonathan Cheechoo: 43 G 87 PTS

25.Scott Gomez: 34 G 87 PTS

26.Brad Richards: 26 G 87 PTS

27.Tim Connolly: 33 G 86 PTS

28.Simon Gagne: 42 G 85 PTS

29.Daniel Alfredsson: 27 G 85 PTS

30.Mats Sundin: 28 G 84 PTS ( Coincendence, I swear)

There you have it folks, my prediction on the top 30 point getters in the league. As you can see, I predicted Crosby will reach the 50 goal plateau. He reached the 40 goal plateau last season and his progression is mind blowing, so why not? I think he'll further extend his lead from everyone else and he'll be the king of the league for many years to come.

I also think Jonathan Cheechoo, Brad Richards, Simon Gagne, Scott Gomez and Ilya Kovalchuk will emerge to the players they are coveted to be and help their respective teams to the next level. Cheechoo had a strong second half to the season and I'll think he'll follow through. Simon Gagne is simple, Daniel Briere added to the Flyers.

I love your list bud, but a glaring oversight is the miracle performance of Alex Kovalev this year who will pot 50 markers, easy.
August 16, 2007 3:20 PM ET | Delete
Nice blog. I'm going to go out on a liem here and say Gagne nets 50 this year. 50th goal on the last game of the year.
August 16, 2007 3:30 PM ET | Delete
where is staal on that list?
August 16, 2007 3:32 PM ET | Delete
Goldenhawk, I'm thinking Staal gets anywhere from high 70'sh to low 80's.... so in other words he just missed it.
August 16, 2007 3:36 PM ET | Delete
No rookies in the top 30 this year?? I'd put Backstrom just in front of Mats for the 29th rank!
August 16, 2007 3:36 PM ET | Delete
sedin twins
August 16, 2007 3:37 PM ET | Delete
Looks pretty good, I wouldn't be surprized if Alfie moves up the list this season and the Ottawa coach finally uses him exclusively on the first line with Spezza and Heatley. Possibly a 100 point season if they do.

I have a lot of answering to do lol, I like it. Even though there is a good selection of rookies this year, like Toews, Kane, Backstrom,etc.... I see the most productive being between 70-80 points so again, just missing the list. As for the Sedin Twins, I think they're production is going to drop, close to around a point-per-game, so basically, again......... just missing the list lol.

Add me to the Gagne will get 50 goals list as well. He got 41 last year on the worst team in the league, and without a healthy no. 1 center. If Briere stays healthy, something Forsberg was unable to do, Gagne will top his 47 goal career high, no doubt. All this talk is making me giddy for next season already!

Great work, a none biased blog.Very enjoyable.

Well written, I personally think that the questionable ones on the list are Vanek and as much as I hate to say this, Sundin. Vanek may crack under his contract and Sundin, well I hope the old boy does as well as you say.
August 16, 2007 3:58 PM ET | Delete
GH, Vanek can either way, you're definitely right. But I think he can handle the pressure, espiecially with such a vast pletoria of young guns around him ( Pominville, Roy, etc.). Sundin got 76 points in 75 games last season, so keep in mind I'm assuming everyone plays 82 games which won't happen for most. You're right though, he's getting older and he still doesn't have a strong supporting cast. BUT with Wellwood on the PP with him ( I'm predicting 70 points for Frodo) and a Tucker or Blake, I think it's very probable.

I tried to post this once, I hope it actually works this time - I should have copied exactly what I wrote so I wouldn't have to do it again haha.A couple thoughts. First off, since you have Sundin on there, what about his new linemate Jason Blake? He notched 40 last year on the Island, and now he get's to play with a real centerman. Second, if healthy Marion Gaborik should post close to 100 pts, I think he really should be on there. And my last thought (I am a little biased here I suppose) is that Ales Hemsky should be able to match the 83 points that would put him at #30. He has got 77 I believe it was in the past, and should be able to beat that this year. That does depend though on how many PP points he gets - should be a lot with Souray and Pitkanen on the points, and how well Penner finishes off his nifty passes. But overall good list. Very thought provoking blog, I like it.

No sedins and 34 goals for gomez come on
August 16, 2007 4:15 PM ET | Delete
Deke, for Blake I am predicting 66 points and 32 goals so a solid season. He is 34 years old and beating his career year seems unlikely to me. But it could happen I suppose. To be honest I simply forgot about Marian Gaborik, I will edit him in which will push out Bergeron, thanks deke. As for Hemsky, I could see high 70's - low 80's for sure but once again, he just misses the list. Thanks again, Deke.

Vanek has been a star on every team he has been on, from teenage, to world juniors, to college to AHL, to the Sabres. He has handled pressure and stardom at evey turn. in fact....his star has shined brightest on the biggest stages. All of a sudden he is going to crack??? please.
August 16, 2007 4:44 PM ET | Delete
Crosby only got 36 goals last year, not 40. But I do agree he will get 50 this year. I wouldnt be surprized if he got close to 150 points. I also Think Gaborik will break the 50 goal mark if he plays 82 games. I Would also like to add how nice Stastny looks on the list!!!!
August 16, 2007 5:30 PM ET | Delete
C'mon! Where in the heck is Tom Kostopoulos? You leave off the Kost but you put up Sundin??? Homer.
August 16, 2007 5:40 PM ET | Delete
lmao, mob! true indeed.... :(
August 16, 2007 6:31 PM ET | Delete
A) I don't see Sidney Crosby scoring 51 times (I'm not saying he cant, I just dont think he will)B) Malking wont break 80 points.

superb list.

Marty Havlat!
August 16, 2007 7:48 PM ET | Delete
Nice read Ron. seeing Vanek that high makes em glad they let Danny go for that kind of money
August 16, 2007 7:55 PM ET | Delete
Zetterberg? In 82 games, he can surely get 95 points!
August 16, 2007 8:01 PM ET | Delete
after a 13 goal year you really expect gomez to put up 34?
August 16, 2007 8:02 PM ET | Delete
IMO Zetterberg and Havlat won't have best of seasons. It will be solid but nothing spectacular IMO. Zetterberg had an unbelievable second half but I expect him to go to the point-per-game status next season, from there on the sky is the limit. I considered it but I went with a gut feeling :D. Same goes for Marty.
August 16, 2007 8:03 PM ET | Delete
Goose, Gomez put up 33 goals in 05-06. I believe he will re-establish his game and playing with Jagr is going to help.
August 16, 2007 8:54 PM ET | Delete
Hey Ron, mind predicting the isles points this year? Your predictions have been very honest and I'd love to see what you see in your crystal ball for my favorite team :)
August 16, 2007 8:54 PM ET | Delete
I hope your right about Iginla putting up around 45 goals, and Tanguay coming in with 90 points. Do you think Langkow can be projected around 80 points with a follow up last years 77 point campaign?
August 16, 2007 9:10 PM ET | Delete
Actually, nyi28.... I was planning on doing predictions on the Isles, Bruins, dare I say it....Sens and a few others so hell yea, brotha! Thanks for the kind words.
August 16, 2007 9:12 PM ET | Delete
Dagley, IMHO I see Langknow putting up around the same numbers as last year.
August 16, 2007 10:04 PM ET | Delete
RG another nice blog buddy.I am hoping TC can make it on this list. You think Sundin is going to be able to play enough games to reach that point total? I mean lets be real here are RG, he has been somewhat injury prone the last few seasons and his second half of the season last year was somewhat uninspiring. I know they upgraded their club and when he is on he is on but I just hope for your sake he is healthy enough to reach that figure.
August 16, 2007 10:23 PM ET | Delete
Max, keep in mind I'm just assuming everyone plays 82 games, if I had to guess I'd say Sundin will miss a few. It goes by PPG. So it could be in the 70's..I think Sundin will bounce back, he had a goal scoring slump but he still put up a point per game in that stretch. I'm not worried....I think lol.
August 16, 2007 10:33 PM ET | Delete
Nice list. I have to agree with another poster that Zetterberg will certainly make this list. Him and Datsyuk are amazing together Maybe the best combo in hockey. As a homer, I also notice none of my beloved Ducks on the list which may be accurate. If the incredible Selanne returns, he will certainly make the list. Besides that, the Ducks may just be the only team to have 6 players over 65 points.
August 16, 2007 11:56 PM ET | Delete
I dunno if Crosby is going to take the leap from the 30's to the 50's in goal scoring. he doesn't shoot the puck nearly enough yet, IMO. Also, I think Heatley might get 55. Of course, I'm a sens fan, but still. Also, if you're assuming these players play 82 games, I think Marty Havlat is gonna have to be somewhere on that list, despite your gut feeling. Good job despite my reservations.
August 17, 2007 12:51 AM ET | Delete
nyi28nhl:I think the Islanders will miss the playoffs, 9th-11th place... much like the Leafs this past season, they are in the hardest division in hockey... in any other eastern division though, they'd be in 8th-6th place
August 17, 2007 1:22 AM ET | Delete
I just realized as well that Rick Nash is not on this list. If healthy he should be good for 90 pts.
August 17, 2007 1:56 AM ET | Delete
The fact that ATL has two of the top 10 scorers on your list of predictions and the fact that w.e are still a question mark for the playoffs scares me. Are you thinking we are in again or are we a bubble team. P.S. I love that you gave Kovy 50 goals with either Todd White or Bobby Holik being he setup man. I think it is a testimate to his awsomeness that he was a 40 scorer last year with Ruccin and Sim on his line most of the year (talk about scoring with minimal help)
August 17, 2007 11:06 AM ET | Delete
Very well done, dont completely agree with everything. As it pains me to see no Islanders up there, I agree they shouldnt be. Not b/c i hate the rangers, but i cant see Gomez putting up that many goals. Especially with the talent around him, he'll have a lot of assists.
August 17, 2007 12:25 PM ET | Delete
I'd put my money on Zetterberg being in the Top 10, definitely Top 30. I like the list though, fun to see peoples thoughts.
August 17, 2007 12:59 PM ET | Delete
Where's Ryan Smyth? you dont think he'll break atleast 80 playing with sakic and brunette?
