The never ending problem.

Posted 12:13 PM ET | Comments 7
Sabres fans, hockey fans, and all others:

This is my first chance to impress you with my opinions or bore you with my stupidity. UFAs and RFAs will come and go, and that is what you have to expect. It is no fun when its your favorite player (Drury, Grier,...ect.) and some times you just want to get rid of a guy (Kalinin). Its the business and suck it up, thats all I have to say. It will always be an issue, its the never ending problem with sports today. There is no loyalty, the players follow the green.

Can you blame them? I won't be upset if Ryan Miller leaves Buffalo, if he gets more money somewhere else. Same goes with Pomminville. It's a business decision in the end. If you are offered two jobs and one of them pays 5 $ more an hour, you will most likely take the one that pays higher. That is the thinking in today's society, it's all about the money.

Enough with that! What should the Sabres do?

The Sabres are done with their wheeling and dealing this UFA period, with the exception of the addition of a cheap 6th dman (I really hope we do not sign Rhett, give me teppo back). It is time to focus on Miller and Pomminville.
Miller is a mystery man. Ice running through his veins at times, other times you hear the Mister Softie nickname echo throughout HSBC. Please, Sabres...Sign him. Do whatever it takes. He is playoff tested, he can steal games, he has charisma, he is a bonifide #1 goalie. These guys don't come around often, it took us 6 years to find him (Hasek being the last).

Pommers is tricky. I hope we can get him signed, but for over 5.325 million a year? I don't think so. That number isn't arbitrary. It is the average of the contracts for both Getzlaf and Perry for Anaheim. That is where I would go for him. If he won't sign for that number over 5 or so years, I have a plan. You have to hope someone throws an offer sheet at him in the range of $5,231,246 - $6,539,061 so you can get Two 1st's, one 2nd, one 3rd round pick in return. I will take that. If that doesn't happen, trade him to the highest bidder.

To take on that salary next year, you have to say goodbye to guys like Kotalik, Afinogenov, and Connolly. Spacek might want to stay around. Mr. Sekera and Mr. Stafford are also up as RFAs. I do not want Darcy's job. Goodluck to him, there will be haters and there will be praisers.

Buffman Signing off...

Get it done right, Mr. Regier.

" your opinions impressed" me! HaI think you're right, get him locked up and throw away the key. No distractions, no worrying about he might go to "_____". Nothing is guaranteed that if we let him go, we could find a #1 just as easy. Just because he's not Brodeur or Nabokov (sp?) doesn't mean he can't hang with the best of them.I think Pomminville owes the Sabres everything at this point. We drafted him, gave him a chance to play in the NHL, then when no one picked him off waivers, we gave him another shot. He knows he's our captain-to-be. Just what Gaustad said, "if it wasn't for the Sabres, I wouldn't be here".Darcy is a horse of a different color for sure. He wheels and deals like no other GM in the league. I have no idea how is brain works and how he pulls these trades off. He'll make it happen for both players.

I for one would love to see Warriner back in Buffalo. Pair him with one of the kids and they will learn from this guy! He is the same type of player as Rivet and Rivet is getting nothing but praise( rightly so ) Come on back Rhett!

We need Miller and we need Pommy. We don't need Max, unfortunately, I don't think any team needs Max. He is just too eccentric. Warriner, he can't skate. We don't need his kind of experience. Kotalik and Connolly should go: the first, because he is incompetent; the second because he is injury prone.
