The 2007-08 NHL McDonald's Hockey Cards are set to be released on November 20, 2007. Upper Deck’s website has the check list online already. After going through it I noticed that Sidney Crosby was not included again for the second year in a row.

This is the third set of McDonald’s hockey cards to come out since Sidney Crosby entered the NHL. Crosby only had one McDonald’s hockey card during his rookie season.

I think there are 2 possible reasons. The first may be that Sidney Crosby wants to keep his name away from products he doesn’t believe in. After all any top performing pro athlete surely doesn’t include fast food in their diet. While this could be the case I have my doubts. Crosby does currently endorse some unhealthy products like Pepsi Cola and Lays potato chips.

I tend to believe the reason Sidney Crosby has opted out of the McDonald’s hockey cards has to do with him working on a spokesperson deal with a restaurant. If Crosby is not in talks with a restaurant to be a spokesperson, then he may be holding off just in case he does become one in the future. This will allow him to command a higher contract by pointing out that the restaurant would be the first to sign him giving them exclusivity to his endorsement.

This is my caring face.Oh wait, no it's not.And he's not so much a wuss as he is a whiner. Which is just as bad, if not worse.

My goodness so much hatred...I would think, however, that the league would not appreciate a felon as the face of the game. It has always been interesting to me that when other players chat with the refs about questionable calls, we say that it shows passion and competitiveness. This would be why team captains, such as Crosby, serve essentially as the teams' representatives to the officiating staff. Certainly, particularly in his first year, Crosby's banter was a bit excessive, but to draw conclusions about the character of a young man classy and mature beyond his years is, in and of itself, childish. His chats with the refs come from the same competitive fire that drives him to outwork defenders several inches taller and several dozen pounds heavier than he in the corners, that drives him to give up his diminutive body on a regular basis for the good of the team, that drives him, in short, to be great. Furthermore, he is a player that you can be sure to attend every charity event hosted by the team, despite his fame and obligations. I won't give examples for fear that you will characterize helping kids with cancer as, as you put it, "wussy." To suggest that Crosby lacks respect and dignity is an injustice to him, to the game of hockey and to your intellect. Open your eyes, remove your blinders of geographic bias and learn to appreciate this wonderful era of hockey.

I think the hatred of Crosby by some people is because of jealousy that they don't have him on their team. Why people can't appreciate his talent and passion is beyond me.A recent CBC special said that Crosby for the moment has a full plate and wants to concentrate on hockey, meaning it's unlikely he's going for any specific spokesman deals, especially with McDonald's.

people don't like him because he is forced fed to them. How many things do you like that are constatly shoved down your pie hole. Just watch a Penguins game, especially on National TV. You would think the only person of value on the ice is Sid. It is Nauseating. Many people despise the Yankees/Red Sox for the same reason. Crosby is good, but he has the personality of cardboard. Who likes that?

I believe the reason is that Crosby might be a spokesperson for Tim Horton's and that's why he's not represented in the MCD's.....

I agree with Stastny...it's probably because of Horton's. As for Ovechkin or Heatley, Ovechkin gets a lot of attention too but nowhere near as much as Sid does. And frankly, I think the best thing that could've come from that draft year was having Sid in the East and Oveckin in the West, or vice versa. Of course, people love to see the Ovechkin vs Crosby games, but they'd also love even more to see the Ovechkin vs Crosby Stanley Cup finals. Heatley on the other hand does unfortunately have those charges from the past. It's unfortunate, because it would almost seem like they avoid marketing him. But hey, Spez is on 2k8 and Eric Staal is on NHL 08, so they're utilizing other players well.

Like Ryno said above, most of the anti-Crosby rhetoric is because we're sick and damn tired of hearing that same old song and dance. Oh he's so this, and so that, and he's so mature for his age, he gives to charities, yada, yada, f-ing yada. Seriously, with the amount of money he makes there aren't PR people (or troups of PR People) making him look look as much like St. Mario as possible? Enough already, let the boy (yes I said boy!) play the game and we'll just see how good he is when his contract runs out. That should be long enough to say he's great.
