Before I even start, I know that most Habs fans HATE the fact that Gainey is signing Brisebois...

I'm not one of those. I am actually excited to have him back and think he could be a great asset for our team. Patrice was chased out of Montreal by the fans and the media, and it was not pretty, that is a fact. However, his homecoming could be better than most expect. Here's why:

1. The most important reason Brisebois will be better this go around is because he will NOT be a top 2 guy...he will most likely be after Hamrlik, Komisarek, Bouillon and Markov, making him at LEAST the 5th Dman...that makes a huge difference. He will be playing against checking lines, not top forwards. He will not have the pressure of being our top guy and he will be free to do his job.

2. He moves the puck well, which is very important in the Montreal style of play.

3. Brisebois is 36, and while that may not help his PLAY, it will help his leadership. Our team is fairly young, with alot of 1st/2nd year players as well as guys coming up from Hamilton on and off. Patrice, if he embraces it, can be a veteran the kids can look up to.

4. He is going to cost us under 1Million, which doesn't happen alot with veterans, good or bad.

The main and most important factor in whether Brisebois does well has nothing to do with Patrice, it is all on us...the fans. If we give Patrice a chance, he can be a great asset on our defense. If we don't give him a chance than he is as good as dead...

So I plead with everyone, give Patrice a chance!!!!

For the price he signed for, it is a very low risk venture. Brisbois still has skills to use on the powerplay and is a mosre then serviceable bottom pair defenseman who can log 12-15 minutes per night. It's a good move by the Habs regardless of some of the worries from his first tour with the club

Just don't ask him to play in his own end.

I say its a good signing. I mean he played good his last year as a hab. plus he won't be number 1. But like you said though, it all depends on it we give him a chance.

Its all about $$$ and for the price, Brisebois was a nice pickup. Montreal could certainly use another vet D-man, especially one who they know will be comfortable and happy playing in Montreal.

He may help a little bit on the power play, but don't expect much in the second half of the season (if he makes it that far) or in his own end. In his time with the Avs, he lead the league in putting passes on the other teams' tape from his own corner. Good riddance.

One thing I will agree with, this guy takes the cake for being the guy to get an assist for the other team.
