A Glance Back

Looking back, it’s insane to think that this division didn’t win the Stanley Cup. The Blackhawks were amazing, the Blues were great, and the Avalanche were simply fantastic. They actually stole the title from St. Louis during the final days of the season.

Patrick Roy got the best out of pretty much every single player including goaltender Semyon Varlamov who was second place in Vezina voting. Minnesota and Dallas also made the playoffs as wildcard teams meaning the Central had five representatives in the postseason. The Stars lost to Anaheim but the Wild beat Colorado in a game 7 OT before dropping a six gamer to Chicago. The Blues were nowhere to be found in the playoffs (again) and this was after giving up quite a bit for Ryan Miller.

Looking forward, Chicago is still the beast of the Central while the Blues are still trying to establish themselves. However Colorado seems to be the team of the future. The entire hockey world is watching this one play out.

I would hardly say the Avs stole the Central title from the Blues. The Blues had a collapse and gave it to the Avs is more like it.
