The Colorado Avalanche won their first game of the 2014-15 NHL season in Boston on Monday. The afternoon game ended with a 2-1 score after Daniel Briere scored the game-winning goal in the third period with less than a second left on the clock.

The teams played a hard fought offensive game for 60 minutes and it started early in the first. While on the power play, the Avs got their first real chance of the entire season. With Briere screening Niklas Svedberg, captain Gabriel Landeskog picked up the rebound right in between the hash marks and got a clean shot on. The young goaltender swallowed it up and made a great save.

Later in the period Avs had a three-on-one opportunity washed away after defenseman Tyson Barrie lost control of the puck trying to shovel it over to Dennis Everberg. The “puck luck” seemed to continue to be going against the Avalanche’s favor.
