...for i am pretty much 'hockey'd' out.

pretty happy with the agressiveness of the flyers this year. but it is hard to get too excited for what seems like a case of deja vu. this is not the first time the flyers have gone out and signed half of the free agency market. but hey, i cannot complain. for ten years they have been an extremely successful franchise and i have been thrown into the wake of some tremendous hockey over the this time. its never not interesting.

but now. having solidified a poor defense. i can sleep well this summer and awaken a couple of weeks into preseason to watch my flyers kick up some dust from the start of the season.

if this team does not break out of the gate like maniacs and play like thye have something to prove, then i am going to be very embarassed...more so than any toronto fan : )

from an early perspective, these are the few players who need to prove something this year:
carter - consistency needs to improve
richards - get a little stronger. my grandmother could save one of your shots
biron - keep the boys in the game night in and night out. keep confidence
briere - not a product of the buffalo system.

who wants to add to this?

I have a feeling this time might struggle out of the gate this season. There has been a very high turnover rate to this roster since Homer took over and it might take 10-12 (or more!) games before the players start to click together.

I would add Upshall and Coburn to the list as well - it is very easy to play well when there is no pressure on you, quite different when the expectations are playoffs and more....it should be interesting.....

Any team that is assembled in one year, needs time to bring it together. The Canucks were like that last year and it took them until Xmas to figure it out.Still, the team was clearly in need of some scoring and got stuck in Round 2 as a result.. They guys (less lupul) all seem to be of high character, so Philly should be in great shape by the new year.

Hey guys, A sens fan here....I'm just curious what you guys think of all the rumours "flying" around about Forsberg and Vanek. It seems this is way out of the question, seeing as your cap hit is just microscopically under the cap. Yet, all these so-called insiders are claiming that Forsberg is going back, and that they're pushing an offer sheet towards Vanek???? How can this happen? Is it realistic? I'm just really curious to get a Philly fan's standpoint.. You guys are going to be amazing this year if your team can come and play together.

The Flyers seem to know how to deal with the salary cap. They also have some excess players to trade for Vanek.ANything is possible. They would have to unload both Hatcher and Gauthier also.

yet i feel with all the work holmgren has done, it would go against the team-building philosophy to try and get vanek since it would cost us 4 first round picks...a little excessive. yes vanek is a very talented, young player but there are many others that we could get for much cheaper in upcoming drafts. forsberg should play in sweden, i'd rather see him able to walk for the rest of his life instead of the continuous punishment his body has seen.
