Carter to LA was a steal

Posted 6:37 PM ET | Comments 8
Jeff Carter was a stud in Philly with multi 30 plus goal seasons. To this day I still think the Flyers shot themselves in the foot getting rid of Richards and Carter. Getting Jeff Carter for Jack Johnson and a pick is a steal. Two years ago if the Kings ever tried to go after Carter while he was with the Flyers, they would have had to pay a steep price for the 30 goal scorer. With Columbus kicking a top forward out, the Kings end up with a huge offensive lift. I am hoping my blog about "Is LA where good hockey players go to die" ends with Carter lighting it up. Jack Johnson was a decent defenseman for the Kings and got his points here and there, but he was not a top line D-man by any means and made key mistakes at critical times. Kings fans were emotionally attached to Johnson for sure, but when the tears clear, I think they will realize what a great pick up Carter is. The Los Angeles Kings need offense, they are having one of the worst goal scoring seasons ever in the NHL. The Kings have a good defensive core, a great goaltender and this trade could make them a more complete team for sure.

Carter and Richards had success on the same team, and by a little luck, they are back on the ice together for years to come. They both won a Calder Cup together and seem to have a great relationship on and off the ice. Richards hasn't been the same since his head injury, but with Carter around it may create a huge spark for him to snap out of it.

I do not agree with Carter pouting in Columbus, but I understand he felt he was screwed by the Flyers after signing his long term contract. Although, I am sure the Flyers and Blue Jackets have felt screwed by him a little in the injury department, as he has missed significant time due to injury over the years. If Carter can stay healthy and not get distracted by the California sun, this could be a great fit for the LA Kings for years to come and LA fans will be saying "Jack who?"

It was always a love/hate relationship with Jack in LA. It's always nice when fans are passionate and don't want to break up the family..but every team has their breaking point. The kings weren't winning with the previous group. Carter can only help and voynov cleanly replaces jack.

Jeff Carter disappeared in the play-offs, never used his side they way he should, never adapted to playing wing when we had other centers better (Richards, Briere and G). Was so happy he is gone. CBJ got a total class act in Johnson and a 1st rounder to boot. Howson did a great job getting what he did.

Carter IS a steal! Voynov plays just as good, if not better than JJ and is a 5. We need goals, so adding Carter makes us a better team.

as much as voynov can replace johnson i don't think that you guys got the better of this deal...carter is not worth johnson and a first rounder especially with his attitude lately

Its not about who got the better side of the deal, its about what you got in return. We need offense, without giving up defense.
