"The Real Puckin' Deal"
Detroit, MI • United States •
It almost comes as no surprise really but Ty Conklin has been placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings. This is coming after Joey MacDonald shocked and stole the hearts of all those in Detroit. He also stole a roster spot as the number two goaltender from Ty. Jimmy Howard is finally back after missing the past 8 games with a broken finger, thus making it mandatory for one of the goalies to be assigned back to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.

Joey MacDonald earned his spot on the NHL-leading Red Wings after going 6-1-1 with a 1.66 goals against average and leading the Wings to the NHL record for most consecutive home victories of all time.

Conklin, 35, was just 3-5-0 with a 3.50 goals-against average and a .878 save percentage. He has 24 hours to go unclaimed by another NHL team, so that the Wings can assign him down to Grand Rapids. Conklin started the season strong with a shut out in his first game of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Avalanche but has struggled since before eventually losing his job to MacDonald.

"It's great to be the guy to get thrown in there every single night, to take some of the pressure off Howie for a little bit," MacDonald said. "Howie's been playing a lot. He had quite a streak going. He'll be back here the next game and just got to keep building on it and be ready for my next start.

Starting goaltender Jimmy Howard is expected to start tomorrow (Tuesday) in CHicago, who has won 3 straight games after losing 9 straight.
