It's obvious from the traffic and comments on this site that Sabre fans thirst for good and credible hockey media coverage. Unfortunately, the Buffalo hockey media took a hit this week as Brad Riter was fired from WGR550 in Buffalo.

Sabres fans know Riter as the host of the Sabres postgame radio coverage. He was also a long time host for the night shift at WGR. Here's one listener's opinion. This decision sucks!

Riter was a witty and intelligent host. And perhaps the best and most elusive compliment one can give any WGR host is that he was OBJETCIVE in his comments and coverage.

As Buffalo listeners know, WGR "All Sabres All the Time" radio has become anything but objective in their hockey coverage. (This bias mostly likely is the result of the inherent conflict of interest they have from carrying the Sabres games on the radio.)

While Riter openly admitted to be fan of the team, he was at least fair in his criticism. This is much more than you can say for other WGR cheerleaders.

Here's hoping that Brad pops up on the Buffalo dial again!

Riter was always a great guy to listen to. Hope he lands on his feet.but also with losing Riter, the Sabres are losing another great reporter as Buffalo News writer Tim Graham is leaving at the end of next week to cover the Miami Dolphins for the Palm Beach Post

Didn't know that about Tim Graham. He's a very good reporter. I liked his work very much except for his self appointed "crusader role" against Baby Joe Mesi.

Unfortunately, most fans and all management personnel want cheerleaders; not objective sports announcers. They'ed rather leave the objective analysis to the opposing team's announcers.I'm an old timer and I go waaaaaaaay back to when WGR employed Bill Mazur as a sports announcer. At that time, I did not find sports interesting and avoided watching them. Then, one evening I heard Bill's comments concerning one of the Bison's games. I was shocked - here was a sports announcer who was intelligent and actually possessed a polysyllabic vocabulary. I was disappointed when he left Buffalo for greener pastures in the New York Metropolitan Area. I was equally pleased when, after moving to New Jersey, I was able to listen to his broadcasts again.Additionally, he always had good things to say about Buffalo and its fans and he was partial to Buffalo teams.I miss Bill now that he is retired.

I used to love WGR550 but as I listened to it more and more, it became clear the only interesting things being said on it came from Riter's mouth about the Sabres. He was very insightful regarding the team. I remember being at the NJ game when Miller lost his cool and then proceeded to look very shaky thereafter and saying to myself, if he gets mad we are in trouble. Later on, listening to GR, someone mentioned how Miller never loses his cool and Brad retorted with the NJ story which says all you need to know about his attention to detail. I definitely hope he lands somewhere covering the Sabres.

This is complete crap. Brad is the only reason I listened to that station besides the Sabre games. They keep Mike Tschoop who only insults people but fire Brad who even when you had a bad take on something would listen. Can Mike Tschoop please be next. That guy is an asshat who should'nt be anywhere near a mic. Anyways, good luck Brad. Looks like you'll be leaving town cause this is a one sports station town. And now boy does it now suck even harder.

How dare you say anything negative about Mike Schopp? Don't you know that he knows EVERYTHING and is NEVER wrong? We'd better hope he doesn't see this blog cause he'd shut this whole site down.

He'll never see it. He is a no everything douche bag. For him to see it would mean he woud be doing research for his show, which if you listen to him you know that is something he never does. He's to busy prepping for another one of those bad old time annoucer skits which he makes obscure references which he finds hilarious but are just awful. Man do I hate that guy I mean really. I'd rather listen to Bob Gaughn. Wait, maybe not. But he is still just danm terrible.

Jeremy White and Brad Riter (mainly Brad) is the only reason why I listened to that radio station! I loved the way he covered the Sabres. I just sat through Schoop knowing Brad will be on soon! First I find out about Lorenz not Riter! What a horrible day for Sabres Radio. Maybe MSG will pick him up for pre or post game Sabres coverage. Maybe even 97 Rock for the bills?
