Well folks, after seeing the new RBK Edge jerseys live and in person i give them a very solid thumbs down. Fashion aside (and very few of the uniforms that did change changes for the positive) these things are so flimsy and rip so easy that every fight from now till they are fixed will come down to who can tear his opponents jersey faster . Even if they don't tear they are so stretchy that its just way too easy to get it over your opponents head. This will get someone seriously hurt and may have already as New Jerseys Cam Janssen had his shoulder dislocated when the Flyers Jessie Boulerice tore his jersey got it over his head and just pounded him. Now I know outside of New Jersey and especially in Toronto this may be seen as a good thing, just remeber its your tough guy wearing this crap too.

It is quite obvious that Bettman's team really didn't research this enough. What will his solution be to admit the mistake or take a tougher stance on fighting.

Not only are the jerseys dangerous for the players, they are brutal on my eyes! Haven't seen one yet that I like.

The only one that looks good is washingtons.

Does Washington have that hideous band that highlights the shoulder pads? I hate that. Isles must have copied their design off a bed spread or comforter. Where is the Fisherman when you need him?

Sorry you guys had a bad design... the Canes looks just fine. But then I was used to the old ones... it's pretty much the same (see, it can be done).Dangerous? most of the players like them, and I've seen quite a few fights already (several in the 1st period of the ottawa game alone) and they haven't ripped. An isolated case does not the rule make. Besides, by fighting you're risking injury anyway...

cptjeff - do you work for rebook?

ISLANDER FAN, CAN'T BLAME YOU - YOURS ARE JUST BRUTAL LOOKING. JANSENN HAD IT COMING!

i know exactly what you're talking about. I was in Trenton to see the fight. the jersey got ripped over his head really easily. and i think somebody ripped theirs in an earlier fight. but this issue will not be addressed the way we want it. bettman will push harder to outlaw fighting before he fixes the jersey problem. his priorities are really messed up. always changing a game that does not need it.

No, I don't work for Reebok, I actually think they're ugly in many (if not most) cases and should have been optional for the teams. That said, unsafe is not something I would call them. This is just a cry for a little less illogic and a little more objective thinking. And I forgot to add on the first post: This was Karma.

Ya I was gonna say its nice to see Janssen get pounded...

The Ducks home jersey's look OK. What I thought was funny was that the Ducks players were complaining that the new unis were too tight and were already ordering jerseys several sizes larger. Is it me or does this negate one of its positive attributes that it's supposed to be sleeker and therefore more wind resistant? As for the fighting, the guys will adjust. Janssen had his shoulder seperated last year by Parros of the Ducks and, speaking from experience, when it goes once, it goes easier the second and third times etc.

Yeah, I expect no love loss for Janssen's injury, but the fact of the matter is his was NOT the only jersey to tear. It happened to Asham and at least one maybe two other guys. Once is a fluke, multiple times is a design flaw.

There not unsafe. Thats ridiculous. Your looking for excuses to bash them because you don't like them. That being said - you have every right not to like them. Bettman changed the jerseys to "update" the look of hockey (not debating whether thats right or wrong). Does it really matter? Is anyone gonna stop watching hockey due to the jerseys? No. Might it catch the eye of a potential hockey fan? Maybe. I honestly like the new cut they have but don't like how most of the teams laid out the colors. Unfortunately as humans we typically don't take well to change, especially when its at symbol we love.

So far, the only folks giving this awful jersey any positive press seems to be the NHL and the media. They look like Sh#t!

The Flyers have already reordered most of their Jerseys because the players were complaining they were too tight and restricted their movement. Too bad they they couldn't use that excuse last year.

Jessie Boulerice dislocated his shoulder last year in a fight as well. Call me crazy but I think he was wearing an old style jersey. His injery wasn't caused by the new RBK jersey. I agree that most teams took a step back with their new designs and can see a few teams changing them again very soon. The sharks new look reminds me of the 1977-1984 Blues uniform. I agree with skypager regarding the cut of the jersey, it's not RBK's fault the teams choose the design they did.

i like the way the new jerseys look! maybe i am just saying that because i am a sabres fan, and anything looks good compared to the slug. Maybe Janssen's injury was just a fluke?
September 19, 2007 5:24 PM ET | Delete
I don't think there is any hockey fan alive that feels bad for Cam Janssen after what he did to Kaberle last year.
September 19, 2007 5:30 PM ET | Delete
Your missing the point, Janssen was just an example and being that all he provided was some bang physically and contributed next to nothing to the team offensively or defensively I dont see his injury as a huge loss, karma aside (though i find the uproar from a fan base that idolized Tie Domi a tad hypocritical) The Point is that in just about every one of the 5 first period fights in Trenton one of the combatants easily had his jersey pulled over his head and in more than half of the fights it was a result of the ease in which the jersey was torn.

knowing bettman, he'll outlaw fighting before he admits he made a mistake *cough* salary cap *cough*

sabresx88 I really liked the old Sabres jerseys, the one before the Slug as you call it. Dont know why they change those, they were one of the best in the NHL

Like the new duds or not their here to stay. Are they tighter yes.. with they make it harder to turtle with them? I hope so... maybe then fighting will go back to the "watch what your stick and cheap hits or Big George will break you orbital bone" message that it should be. I like the new tighter duds myself, Never liked the big puffed up look guys had before. As for the colors and logos, I liked some and hated others... pretty much the same now...

The sharks jersey is the ugliest piece of Crap on the market. im saying that as a sharks fan lol. i mean we copied sabers numbers on the front and we went old school with a cartoon on front and hella deep colors. why dont we just go to some like middle school team and take there jerseys.

Maybe jerseys ripping and shoulders getting dislocated will stop players who have as much talent as "donkey kong with skates" from getting on the ice. I'm so sick of seeing these no talent goons on the ice and honestly, I'm happy if the jerseys rip and they don't want to fight. Get the idiots who have no talent off the ice.

I haven't seen the new Sharks jerseys yet, but I did notice that the Miami Dolphins have joined the NHL.
