The past couple days I wrote 2 blogs talking about what the lines would be in Edmonton if MacTavish was done making moves for the summer. Now here's what I think MacTavish should do to make the bottom 6 better and more experienced.

The lines going into next season look pretty much like this right now.....

Hall - Nuge - Eberle

Perron - Gagner - Yakupov

Joensuu - Gordan - Jones

Acton - Lander - Hamilton

ex. Smyth, Brown

This bottom six looks bad giving that Joensuu and Jones should are 4th line wingers not 3rd line wingers and Acton and Hamilton aren't NHL quality. So if MacTavish wants to optimize the teams potential he has to find 2 new 3rd line wingers.

MacTavish has to tred carefully though if he goes out to find new 3rd line wingers because Edmonton's only has something like 1.5 million in cap space and they already have 48 out of the allowed 50 contracts. So if he goes the free agent route he has to be careful.

So who could MacTavish target? Stephan from NYR? Tootoo from Detroit? Sign Boyd? I like the idea of Tootoo and Stephan because Stephan is young and could fit into the young core of the team and he also plays a good 2 way game. I like the idea of Tootoo because he's an arrogant, stupid, annoying idiot. Exactly the type of agitator you want on your team. He's also not terrible at hockey.

So if the Oilers were to target Stephan and Tootoo what would they have to give up? It would be easy for the Oilers to get Tootoo because Detroit needs another defense and Edmonton could trade them N Schultz or Smid for Tootoo.

Stephan would be a bit harder to get because hes a young presence with lots of upside. Hemsky will be in the deal because we have to get rid of him but he's not enough to get Stephan from New York. What else could we give them? Maybe Smid or N Schultz (dependant on who they trade for Tootoo)? That's a bit too much but maybe Hemsky and Smid/Schultz for Stephan and a 2nd/3rd? Do you think NY would bite?

So if Edmonton trades for these 2 their lines would be.....

Hall - Nuge - Eberle

Perron - Gagner - Yakupov

Stephan - Gordan - Tootoo

Joensuu - Lander - Jones

ex. Smyth, Brown

I like these lines. You have some grit and annoyance with Tootoo and Joensuu and some good 2 way play with Stephan and Jones. I like it, do you?

The Problem with the Oilers are they are strapped against the cap (capgeek says 1.3mil in space) and they have nobody they should trade except Hemsky (who no one really wants). The Oil actually have a really nice D corps so assuming they do not move any D, I think shipping out Hemsky to anyone for anything would benefit them because then they could go after some UFAs. Cleary and Larose would be a perfect fit for this teams 3rd line with Gordon while pushing Joensuu and Jones down to the 4th. Raymond could be a possibility too.

We are not really strapped, if we obtain another contract it will be through trade in which case salary will be moved out. Hemsky is off the books after this year. Schultz can be moved rather easily come deadline day if a team needs a sturdy defender for a playoff run. Tonnes of money available next year.

Agreed, for next year but not right now... and the only player you guys want to deal is Hemsky but no one wants him!

No, no you got the right guy, he wants to trade Hemsky for a 23 year old center who has outscored him in the last 2 years.

ya after looking at it again stephans far fetched, maybe they sign Brad Boyes and trade hwmsky for a pick? Need to trade Hemsky for cap room and Boyes would be a good veteran presence.

hemsky is a 5 mill brittle china doll, please can I have him on my team? Is Taylor Hall learning how to get hurt from him?

For the record, Hemsky is an excellent play making RW who has 451 pts in 597 NHL games. He has had two 70 plus point seasons and would have had more if it were not for meatheads like Derek Boogard who pasted him and faced no retribution from the smurfs. Brittle china doll my ass.

who hasnt played close to a full season since 2005

Hemsky had 71 pts in 2008; 66 pts in 2009; Production fell off the last few years with injuries that resulted from not being afraid to go in the corners. Played the last 15 games this season with a broken foot. Sounds like a pussy to me?But then again you are a Blue Jays fan.

Please reread the part about Hemsky NOT being afraid.Maybe take some of your own advice and have a few pints and go for a rip in your car. When you awake in the afterlife, meet Boogaard at the rink and ask him to take his best shot at you then come back here and tell us all how Hemmer is a brittle china doll. Seriously have you even watched him play? Check out his many highlight real goals on you tube and get back to me.
