The best thing that could have happened to the leafs took effect this weekend when they lost both Mats Sundin and Nik Antropov to injuries. There is no way that the leafs win anymore games from this point in without Sundin and Antropov their top 2 scorers.

Obtaining a lottery pick is looking alot better then it did mid last week. Any chance of getting Stamkos, (unlikley as it is) will be a good gamble. The maple leafs need a legit star and Sundin IMPO is going to retire at seasons end. That being said there really is no face to this franchise at the present moment.

If the leafs are going to rebuild they need someone to rebuild around. At the present moment the Organizatio lacks someone of that caliber. Stamkos would give the fans something to look forward to because next season will be worse then this one.

The rebuilding fase will be around 3-4 years. We are not the Flyers the farm depth is just not there with T.O. The Flyers had stars Mike Richards, Carter and Umberger to build around. The leafs have Steen, Stajan, Tluslty and Anton Stralman.

The maple leafs farm system compiles of a bunch of 3rd and 4th liners something the team already has an abundance of.

This is going to be a long process and anything less then a full transplant will leave this organization in cardiac arrest.

So to all of the fans that are hoping for better days ahead think again. This leafs team is just going to get worse next year and the growing pains are going to be atleast 3-4 years.

Atleast their will be positive change and new players to cheer for....
