There have been plenty of 1st round mock drafts in which we all have ideas on what player will be drafted in what range.

In this blog I am going to break down all of the Flames picks, from rounds 1 through 7 and determine who should be drafted at that position based on the Flames strategy of "best player available".

Here are the Flames picks:

First round, 6th overall — Flames’ own pick
Best Player Available: C Elias Lindholm

First round, 22nd — From St. Louis in D Jay Bouwmeester trade
Best Player Available: LW/RW Anthony Mantha

First round, 28th — From Pittsburgh in RW Jarome Iginla trade
Best Player Available: D Josh Morrisey

Second round, 37th — To Montreal in LW Michael Cammalleri trade

Third round, 67th — Flames’ own pick
Best Player Available: LW Taylor Cammarata

Fourth round, 97th — To Florida in C Corban Knight trade

Fifth round, 127th — To Washington in D Dennis Wideman trade

Fifth round, 135th — From Columbus in RW Blake Comeau trade
Best Player Available: C Adam Tambelini

Sixth round, 157th — Flames’ own pick
Best Player Available: LW Tyler Bertuzzi

Seventh round, 187th — Flames’ own pick
Best Player Available: G Spencer Martin

Seventh round, 198th — From Chicago in G Henrik Karlsson trade
Best Player Available: D Tyler Lewington

I think the Flames tried to get the number 3 pick from Tampa but with Lacavalier being bought out then I guess that is off of the table. I am sure there will be plenty of trades for more picks between now and the end of the draft so I doubt that the order they now have will change. The Flames need size and speed in all positions especially at center. I only hope that we do not pick Jones as I believe he is going to drop down the order until all the high end forwards are gone.

sdcrap13 - Yes, please pass on Jones if he falls past Mackinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Nichushkin, Lindholm, and/or Monahan. Take whoever is left of that group. The Oilers would love to take Jones and the Flames will be paying for it in the standings for years to come.

That is just nuts. If Jones fell to us I would pp my pants with excitement. better yet imagine the trade opportunities for that pick.

Not bad... would prefer Rychel or Burakowsky over Mantha if available. If Morrissey or Morin are available at 28 that would be sweet. Would prefer Eric Roy Subban or Buchnevich over Cammarata if possible.
