Possible Kubina Trades

Posted 1:47 PM ET | Comments 5
Three teams would appear to be possible destinations right now and I'm going to toss around some names:

Ottawa: Vermette and Jeremy Yablonski for Kubina, Yablonki could be a good replacement for Belak in the enforcer category and Vermette could be in for a big enough raise through arbitration to warrant dealing away for a Top- pair defenseman like Kubina.

Tampa :Ouellete, Ryan Craig and a pick( 4th round).

Los Angeles: O'sullivan and Brian Boyle.

Discuss.

The ottawa trade i dont see happening b/c of them being divisional rivals , the tampa one could work bc those two fit into the leafs whole youth movement . but didn't tampa sign craig bc they wanted to keep him , its jokinen that is on the block with them . for the King trade the major issue for them is hittign cap floor , dealin sully who is a rfa with them sorta cuts down furhter of hittin floor , and LA is also another team dedicated to the youth movement who are drawing closer and closer to being contenders . They need D espeacilly with the loss of Blake but they wont at the expesne of their future .

On the Tampa thing, they currently have a glut of forwards and signed Craig before a bunch of other signings. His potential is good, a character second line guy at best, but his injury history makes him a worry. Which is likely one reason Tampa loaded up on forwards already...because they feel Craig and Jokinen could be trade bait. As for division rivals, I disagree here, the Sens want badly to break into the Leaf fan base in Ontario and elsewhere - and if the Leafs are rebuilding this season, there's no better time to make another run - no matter where the players come from. Right now there worry more about keeping up with the rest of the East.

the La would work because LA wants to get to the minimum and Kubina is making lots of money

LA is looking for someone big and physical I'm sure. O'Sullivan and Boyle together, though, might be undoing too much of what the organization has been trying to do. Still, I can only think they'd be interested in Kubina.I've noticed a lot of people are bringing up that the Kings aren't at the cap floor. I'm sure that's not causing them panic and is a much better situation to be in than to have no cap space. The Kings are keeping their course-- much to the frustration of some fans.Anyway, I'd welcome Kubina to town and enjoyed your post.

With the Leafs trading a 5th rounder for Hollweg, the enforcer role may be filled. Vermette's camp is getting out the word that he'd prefer to stay in Ottawa - so perhaps he's softening any salary demands. This should eliminate any potential for a Toronto/Ottawa trade.Tampa still remains my odds on favorite, while Los Angeles could certainly be possible if the Leafs are willing to take a 1 for 1 deal, with O'Sullivan for Kubina.O'Sullivan may enjoy a return to Toronto and would be an instant hit with Don Cherry.
