Not Giving Up Yet

I was at the Joe last night for the Blues-Wings game and I couldn't help but be very impressed with the Blues and how they played. They out-hustled the Wings to every loose puck, their offensive forecheck was great and it created some Red Wings defensive zone turnovers, and I really like the Blues for the most part being very active and aggressive on defense.

I think that Manny Legace should not have started that game as do many people, Chris Mason is coming off shutouts in 2 of the last 3 games so you go with the hot hand. Even if Andy Murray says that with back-to-back games he wants to give each goalie a start, I think your best chance to win is going to be with Mason, even on back-to-back nights. Chris Mason came in and stopped everything until the shootout.

But with this said, call me an optimist but the Blues are 8 points out of a playoff spot right now with games in hand on several clubs, and they are playing much better right now and are coming together. Berglund has become a real weapon with his one-timers from the faceoff circle on the powerplay, and T.J. Oshie is really playing well. David Backes is emerging as a force as a power forward.

The biggest thing I see happening is that the Blues are getting close to being as healthy as they are ever going to get this season. With Andy MacDonald coming back in a week or two, I think the Blues have a shot at making an interesting push for the playoffs this year. And it all starts with the game tonight in Columbus, a chance to bounce back from last night's solid effort in Detroit by beating the Jackets, who are tied with a few teams for the 8th spot in the West. It's crunch time, Let's Go Blues.
