An article about the top five worst signings this season. It really was tough to pick five I am sure.

The articele critizes Ruslan Fedotenko signing of 2.9 one year for scoring 12 goals what about 7 years 7 million a year for a guy that score 13 goals Scott Gomez.

I perosnally dont think Sheldon Souray was a bad deal. He's a very good defenseman

That picture of Smyth in an Islander jersey on the cover of "The Hockey News" bothers most of all......Well, we did indeed pay a little too much for Tank, but we'll see what comes of it. I think Teddy will get alot of this guy. But I agree with "dack1972", why nothing on the friggin' Gomez deal? That's pretty much the worst signing in my eyes this whole off season.

Of course it is the worst signing EVER in the history of the NHL why? because the Rangers did it maybe? I dont know jealous Islander fans. Gomez is a true playmaker who was going to make 7 million wherever he signed, he chose to sign in New York because that gave him the best chance of winning and the best chance to show his true offensive abilities.

This article appeared in The Hockey News about two weeks ago. There was a response to it posted today by the author, Adam Protaeu http://thehockeynews.com/en/news/news.asp?idNews=25507

There's always that one Rags fan that likes to turn it around and blame it on us "jealous Isleas fans". I don't give two rats asses what the Rags do. They can sign who ever they want and I will never loose any sleep. I can care less, but when you sign a guy for that much, he should be a star. Gomez is good, but NOT THAT good. Not to mention, by signing him, your GM pretty much just ran your "star" (Jagr) out of town. It hasn't happened yet, but it is going to happen. A true Rags fan should not be happy about that. Drury was a great pick up by them I'll admit, but they should've signed Nylander. Jagr and Nylander were fenominal last season together. Enjoy Gomez's 15 goal season this upcoming year. It must be nice to have enough money to pay a guy $500,000 a goal for the next 7 years. He's going to get worn out skating back to cover for his lack of defense.

I dont know, I might lose (not loose) a little sleep if my team lost Smyth, Blake, Kozlov, Poti, Hill, and Yashin, all in one sitting (please fill me in if i missed any). All that and to only pick up fedotenko guerin (who will be turning about 50 this year). And I may just be a bit envious of some other teams offseason acquisitions, probably because you'd wish they'd have done something more...right? or are you happy with how things have went so far?

going back to what "dack1972" said.......How is it worse to sign a guy for 2 years 6million (over all) with 12 goals last year, then a guy for 7 years 50 million (over all) with 13 goals? Tank happens to fit into our system perfectly. Gomez is just going to be another Ranger bust. They're going to be looking to dumb him in 2 years and noone is going to take him at that price. I'd rather take the gamble at 6 million then 50 million, and both clubs are in fact gambling on these guys.

Everyone that left is no great loss to use except Smyth. We gambled and lost. Every team out would've made the same move. If our dopey goalie didn't run out of the net and get hurt we would've made it it at least the 6th spot and did far better in the playoffs. That was all because of Smyth. He said it a bunch of times, the only reason why he left was to be closer to his family. You can't blame a guy for that. As for the rest.....Blake was never a favorite of mine. He's weak on the puck and in the corners. Kozlov was lazy, as well as Yashin, Hill was too old and Poti sucked ass for you guys and only played well because of Nolan. He will not be missed. As for Geurin.....His leadership will be worth every penny of his contract. Don't go throwing "old man" stones. I do believe you have a cane totin' player that wears number 14.

I dont know, I didnt write the article, take it up with him. But im sure "tank fits right into your system", how would you go and justify that?? did u scout this acquisition with nolan, please fill me in on you secrets.... maybe howie rose told u some insider tip.... And no, we are not gambling on gomez, he is a proven veteran centerman who has much more on off ice qualities than simply points. So please, try not to bash other teams acquistitions (just bc you dont like the team) and Glorify yours (just because it is your team)......
July 30, 2007 2:06 PM ET | Delete
I think your pick up of Drury was big. He's a great player and is going to be a force on your squad. I'm mostly picking on your Gomez deal for the price. Glen said that he wanted to sign two top centermen and he paid for it. His offer made Gomez untouchable to the rest of the league and he got his man. Noone else in the league would pay Gomez that type of money.
July 30, 2007 2:12 PM ET | Delete
could possibly be very true. Gomez is most likely overpaid, but we'll see how he does in a more offensive minded system.
July 30, 2007 2:14 PM ET | Delete
Believe it or not, I'm not a Ranger hater. Only when they're on the same ice as my team. I actually liked alot of old Rangers......Richter and Leetch to name a couple. I also loved Messier, how could you not. Now, I really like Lundquist (sp?), he's a great goalie and your GM is treating him like crap. Giving him a 1 year deal because he just unloaded the bank on Gomez. Classy GM you got there.

well its nice to meet ya, annd whoa whoa whoa, hes still a RFA next year, im pretty sure something longterm will be in the works during this whole season. I mean not as long as DIPI's contract but something significant. I dont think henrik is too upset gettin a 3. something Million dollar raise. and im sure he knows he will get whats coming to him.

This list sucks. Here are my top 5 worst signings of this offseason:5. Bill Guerin- NYI4. Todd Bertuzzi-ANA3. Roman Hamrlik- MTL2. Kimmo Timonen-PHI1. Scott Gomez-NYR
July 30, 2007 2:37 PM ET | Delete
Now don't go bashing my team too quickly. We're still not done yet and we have 15 million more to play with. You guys have like 50 cents left under your cap and no defence.
July 30, 2007 2:41 PM ET | Delete
Leave it up to a leafs fan to put his nose in someplace it doesn't belong. You have your own problems brotha. By the way....thanks for taking Blake off our hands. You know he only played like that last season because it was his contract year? He did nothing before that. His signing should've been in the top 3 of that said list.
July 30, 2007 4:08 PM ET | Delete
Fedetenko was compared to Gomez in the first reply. LOL. Priceless!
July 30, 2007 6:17 PM ET | Delete
How can you say Bill Guerin was a bad signing. Everyone that played with Guerin has stated how good of a leader he is. Even if he gets 20 goals would be ok by me...he's there to bring experince, leadership and hard working attitude which the Islanders have lacked as a captain in a long time. It's call CHEMISTRY which Sather and Rags don't understand. You Rangers fan can talk all you want...wait and see who makes the playoffs next year.

Adam Proteau is a hack
July 30, 2007 8:41 PM ET | Delete
Gomez makes the players around him much better. The worst signing is definitely Kariya.
July 30, 2007 9:04 PM ET | Delete
I'd say it's Todd Fedoruk, honestly. $850K for a goon that can't fight anymore?
July 30, 2007 9:52 PM ET | Delete
well i guess with the contract that gomes got,u can say hes just as good or better then crosby-thorton--sakic..sad,just sad
July 31, 2007 8:54 AM ET | Delete
Damn dack, quit being such a ranger hater, get a life
July 31, 2007 10:02 AM ET | Delete
Proteau is a moron leafs fan who writes for a magazine designed to entertain other moron leafs fans. he includes tenk at less than 3 mil on the list- at the one spot to boot, and then goes on to explain why he doesn't include Sarich: 3.5 mil isn't going to eat up that much cap space. FOOL!
July 31, 2007 1:55 PM ET | Delete
guys, Gomez scored 13 goals, but we all know hes super talented.
July 31, 2007 2:43 PM ET | Delete
He's making more money then CROSBY ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! It's insane.......How can anyone think this was a good signing? I'm not debating the fact he's on the team. He is a good player, it's the money he's getting.
