Trade Deadline Thoughts

Fans as the trade deadline approaches many GM's will ask themselves these questions do we go for it now? "or" do we keep an eye on the future?. The correct answer is both, but it's only possible if the GM and the Hockey staff have drafted well in previous years.

Two teams that I look at that have continually kept young talent in the pipeline are The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. Sure other teams have done it as well, but Ray Shero has been rolling out trade after trade every year, but keeping a solid foundation that allows for this. Hey it helps to have Sid the Kid and Malkin, but no denying the Penguins have figured it out. I expect another Eastern Conference Championship appearance in 2014.

I believe their opponent will be the Boston Bruins. Peter Chiarelli has built a team up the middle. That core starts in goal with Tukka Rask and from the crease out to the blue line awaits a 1-2 punch of Big "Z" and Dennis Seidenberg (injured this year): The center of the ice is held down by Patrice Bergeron and David Krecji both with a different skill set, but vital to team success. This core allows PC to shop for supplemental parts without breaking the bank. 2014 deadline needs for The Bruins include a Blue liner and a forward. The "D" Man is a must the loss of Dennis Seidenberg one problem Chiarelli won't have is currency. Boston is under the cap thanks to long term IR of Marc Savard and Seidenberg and the bruins have young prospects playing for them now and in Providence.

The Bruins usually go for the second tier guys on the market, however in 2014 I think it is time the Bruins add a top 6 forward and top D. If a deep run is what they are looking for they have the assets to make it happen. Now it's wait and seeā€¦.. (Trade Deadline Thoughts):
