This trade makes me angry.

I don't understand why Buffalo would risk so many great, young prospects for Kane and Bogosian.

Kane is a proven offensive force, don't get me wrong. Every team in the league could use a guy like Kane. He's big, strong, mean, physical, a power forward with speed who can score 30 goal a season with an amazing shot. I get that part.

I don't really get Bogosian. He was a top draft pick (3rd overall), turning 25 this summer. He's one of those defensive defensemen drafted high to a bad team so you're not really sure how valuable he can be on a good team. He's proven he can score 10+ goals, although he hasn't done it since his first full season. Only twice has he broken 20 points. Once he hit 30 points. Besides his 30 point season, he's never even hit 15 assists. Granted, he usually plays the most difficult defensive minutes and can be a shutdown defenseman, and on a better team he can probably add 10+ goals and 40+ points along with a shutdown role.

I get that Buffalo wants a guy like Kane, but they have McDavid/Eichel coming in, Reinhart, Hodgson, Grigorenko, Girgensens, and that's just off the top of my head. All they had to do is wait, and these guys would have put together an amazing team with the irreplaceable Tyler Myers.

Lets talk about Tyler Myers.

Did Buffalo give up the most valuable piece in this trade? Maybe, maybe not. But Tyler Myers is another guy every team in the league wants. He's like Chara, but only 24, an amazing skater and offensive force, and shutdown defender. I respect Tim Murrays ability to evaluate players, but I cannot believe he gave up Myers. Maybe I could understand a Myers for Kane deal straight up. But then two TOP prospects and an invaluable pick in this years deep draft? For Bogosian? I definitely do not see Bogosian for Myers being a wash.

Bogosian vs Myers

I know Bogosian probably has very good offensive instincts and can be a shutdown defender. But you know what? If he's so great why are his number so bad and why has Winnipeg been so bad with him? This team is having a pretty good year, yet Bogosian still looks like a player stuck on a terrible team. I'm sure the change of scenery will do wonders for him, but man oh man he is absolutely no Tyler Myers.

It's funny that they are being traded for each other since Myers was actually drafted 9 spots after Bogosian. Regardless of what the scouts thought in 2008, Myers is undoubtedly the better player right now and in the distant future.

Chara has proven how valuable a guy like Myers can be. Myers has all the tools to be Chara and much, much more. There really isn't one bad thing to say about Myers. He's a great skater, much better than Chara has been in recent memory or any memory really. He can shoot, score, and play a great offensive game. And being as big as he is, when he's trying to score, what can you really do about it? I always respected Tim Murray, but for a team as bad as Buffalo, I CANNOT fathom trading Myers. He was their big ticket to the Cup like Chara was for Boston. He is not the type of guy that comes along every year in the draft. I know Kane is special too, but really, you can find a guy with his size and skill in most drafts and if developed right shouldn't turn out too far from what Kane brings. He's only had ONE 30 goal season for crying out loud. Mind blowing that Tim Murray accepted this.

So let me repeat.

Kane for Myers
Not bad, if the team getting Kane has a nice spot on the top line LW waiting for Kane to play with some top forwards and do something better than what he's done since his big season. Think how Perron went to Pittsburgh and immediately fit in. Can Kane do that on Buffalo? Probably, but not right away.
Myers on the other hand is more or less a lock for a great career, and in my opinion, whichever team has him the longest has the best chance of winning the cup. I would never in a million years trade this guy. MAYBE if I could really use a guy like Kane, maybe Kane and a pick. Call me crazy, but it seems Buffalo over valued Kane and Bogosian here and are parting with Myers much too easily. Really don't understand this deal.

Winnipeg on the other hand gets another defenseman to play on the right side. They already have Byfuglien and Trouba for the right and are a bit weak on the left, so I guess on the plus side they have some of the best defence on the right but kind of confusing they wouldn't have been looking for a left D instead.. They really could have gotten whatever they wanted for Kane, so a bit confusing, but when you're getting the return they did for these two guys, you don't say no.

Overall, incase I didn't make my opinion clear enough, Winnipeg definitely won this trade. They get one of the best defenseman in the league at only 24 years old, Brendan Lemieux who has a great future ahead of him at only 18 years old, Joel Armia whose been one of Buffalos top prospects for a few years now at 21 years old and has a very good chance at becoming a top 6 scoring winger, AND a 1st round pick in one of the best draft classes the NHL has seen in a while. This trade is lopsided towards Winnipeg, who also gets rid of two players that they wanted gone anyways for having a tendency to look bad in front of fans and media. Just to repeat, this trade blows my mind. Buffalo, what the hell. All you had to do was wait and you would have had such a stacked team, lead by the amazing Tyler Myers. But no. Now you have less picks, less prospects, and NO TYLER MYERs. Evander Kane and Bogosian should solve that issue? Because they are locks for great careers? COME ON even if it weren't for their attitudes this trade would be lopsided! COME ON BUFFALO.

Thanks for reading.

Myers is NOT LIKE CHARACTERS AT ALL!!! Myers is neither a shut down defenseman or a offensive force.I live in Buffalo and can tell u Myers is a bottom 6 d- man.

Damn auto correct.Myers in not like Chara at all

I agree that Myers is not anything that special abcdwillig, but bottom 6 d-man? You mean bottom 3 pairing? There are only 6 D on team, so bottom 6 says nothing. You are thinking bottom 6 forwards, I think.

As soon as you mention the Sabres have Hodgson you lost all credibility.

Myers is one of the best defenseman in the league? Not even close. Has he ever made an all star game? No so with 14 Dmen in the all star game he immediately is not top 15. Look at his advanced stats, they are terrible. If you ever watch the sabres play he takes a lazy or stupid penalty every game, look at the numbers LazarBeam. By the way reinhart should have been the captain of Team Canada at the WJC not your boy Lazar

please stop with the Myers comparisons to Chara.

Myers is like Chara?? Maybe in stature at 6-8. He is pushed off the puck easily does not hit and hardly ever mixes it up. Also, did you know that Lemieux was not going to resign with Buffalo? For some reason his daddy has a problem with him not making the roster in Buffalo. Did you know that Armia has had concussion problems in his career? Bring up all the dirt and facts next time please.

I agree, as a Sabres fan this is horrific, Murray just got fleeced. Sabre fans are looking at Murray as a savior. Last summer he resigned Matt Moulson, Cody McCormick, added Josh Georges who has the worst plus minus in the league and Gionta from the Canadiens. He traded for Nicolas Delauriers for Brayden McNabb and 2 number 2 draft choices to the Kings. None of these moves have worked! Bring back Darcy Regier!!

Brewblaz, this was a great trade for Buffalo, just wait until next season when the team is competing for a playoff spot and you realize, this team is so young that we can be good for another 10 years. Just be patient for the rest of this season and you will be happy after, I promise.

Buffalo😜 good luck with Kane ...what a (franked up) trade..Winnipeg did well, now Winnipeg should trade Myers while he has all this value and really rake it in
February 13, 2015 9:55 AM ET | Delete
Daddichronic, thank you for Kane! Want to give us anymore of your top 5 picks that would wont get again for years? Hope the Jets enjoy being a bubble team for the playoffs for the next 5 years before they admit that they need to rebuild through the draft. Good luck! We are so close we can taste it, thank you Jets for getting us that much closer!

"would" should be "you"

This was a good deal for both sides. Jets need a few forwards to solidify their lineup to make the playoffs this year. Bogo and Myers both needed a fresh start somewhere and Kane will be good if he decides he wants to play in buffalo and starts hitting the net(seriously misses the net 75% of the time)

Lilroot you must have very little hockey knowledge because winnipeg HAS been building through the draft and we have one of the best prospect pools in the league right now (ehlers, morrissey and petan to name a few) along with 2 first round picks in this draft. Not to mention schiefele and trouba who we drafted.

Oleary, I see they have been rebuilding since the beginning of the Atlanta days (lol), but not many rebuilding teams that consistently pick 8-14 actually make it to the contender stage. I hope they are almost done with rebuilding, but most teams (if not all) that win the cup have at least 2 players that were top 5 picks. Now Winnepeg has 0 (to my knowledge). The will have a bunch of good 2nd-3rd line players, but that will not win a cup in this league (in my opinion).

Murray knows exactly what he is getting in Kane and Bogosian. Armia had a slightly better season in the AHL, and Lemieux is having a fantastic year in Jr. None of that means they will work out and Murray said he is ready to move forward next season, not in 5 years. I can 100% guarantee that if next season Kane has a monster year and if Bogo becomes the player he was drafted 3rd overall to be then people will suddenly switch their tune.

The Sabres are now officially an expansion team. There was an article in the Buffalo News which concluded by metrics the Sabres are now the worst team in the NHL since 2007!

Myers....kinda sucks
February 16, 2015 1:51 AM ET | Delete
Ill take Bogosian over Myers any day of the week. We get a Tasmanian devil for a purse carrying p*ssy that takes lazy stupid penalties every game and refuses to stick up for his team mates. Old man Lemieux told Murrey his son will never sign here so buh byy. Stafford, worthless one goal every 15 games we wont miss at all. Armia has concussion problems and will be a carrier minor leaguer till he goes back to his homeland. We got the better of this deal I am sure of it.

By the time the Sabres get good again Kane himself will have left for free agency, whie Winnepeg will have 3 good young players Myers! Ouch!
