Stempniaked

During the 2005-2006 season, or as us Blues fans called it, Hell, there were few bright spots. One of those shining moments came after sending off Mike Sillinger and Doug Weight; the Blues without their top two point producers put together their best stretch of games all year. During that stretch an OT defeat of the mighty Calgary Flames brought forth a new name to the city of St. Louis, Lee Stempniak. While hardcore Blues fans had been watching this kid progress since his call up from Peoria the Flames fans were bewildered. Shortly after this devastating loss a tear was coined on the “Battle of Alberta” blog.

Stempniaked: To be unexpectedly defeated by the singular efforts of a player on a sub-standard team.

Since then this term has been used in numerous situations. Most are in the instance where a team was upset. “Man we got Stempniaked!”, “He pulled a Stempniak!” As for the Original Stempniak, he proved to have an outstanding sophomore season. Scoring 27 goals and 25 assists for 52 points and second on the Blues. Currently he is having a great performance at the 2007 IIHF Men’s Championship tournament in Moscow with 5 goals and 4 assists in 6 games to lead team USA.

Drafted 148th overall by the Blues in 2003, Stempniak, has already proven to be a force in the NHL and at the World level. While the Blues fans look forward to another season now we know what to expect from this kid, I challenge fans from other cities to take notice before you get Stempniaked as well.

Great blog Springdogg. I don't think teams will get Stempniaked by Stempniak much longer because they're going to figure out pretty quick that this guy is for real. From all accounts he is even a better person off the ice than he is a player on the ice. He's definitely a keeper.

Nice Blog! Always a joy to watch Lee grind it out and put the puck in the net. I love what he's doing at the tourny for team USA!!

Well done Springdog. I think you might draw quite a few STLtoday.com'ers with this. Keep up the good work.
