Be Patient Habs Fans

First off i would just like to state that I am a Habs fan just simply sharing my opinion on all the rumors and turmoil there has been approaching the 2017 draft.
To begin I would like to state that the trade made for Jonathan Drouin was a good move made by Marc Bergevin. Addressing the need for scoring was huge especially since Alexander Radulov has not yet been resigned. Being able to keep Radulov would be fantastic for the Canadiens as long as the money and the term are reasonable. Signing him to a longer term deal may not be terrible as long as the cap hit is low enough to justify.

Next I would like to address the speculation there has been over Alex Galchenyuk. If you look at the most recent Stanley Cup Winners they all have a number 1 center, sometimes 2 (Malkin and Crosby) that anchor the team with providing offense and playing in key defensive situations. Obviously this has been the main area of concern for the Canadiens. Although Alex Galchenyuk has not proven to be the number 1 center everyone hoped he would be, I think that he still has the potential to become that player. Let's face it, he's not a Crosby or Mcdavid, but he has the potential to be a solid number one center in the future. We have to remember that he is only 23 years old and has lots of time to mature as a player. Imagine a line consisting of Drouin, Radulov and Galchenyuk, the offensive potential is through the roof. Some may argue that defensively they would be a liability, but who cares, if they put up points and contribute offensively the team will be better off. Let's not forget we have the best goalie in the world in net to back them up along with one of the best shut down defenders in Shea Weber. Finally I think it is important to give Galchenyuk a chance to work with Claude Julien for a full season. The new bench boss may be good for the development of the young center.

To sum this up basically I am saying that trading Alex Galchenyuk is not the answer. Whether it be for a defensman or for Matt Duchene, I think that the Habs will be better off keeping him not only in the long run, but potentially in the short run as well. Lets face it, Deuchene is not the answer. Not only did he have less points then Galchenyuk, he was also a minus 34 this past season. Is that our ideal number 1 center? I know Colorado had a rough season last year, but Duchene's production has dropped continuously since the 2013/2014 season. Also in my opinion trading him for a defender is nonsense. This will not in anyway help the need for a number one center. Sure another d-man would be a nice addition, but not at the cost of giving away Galchenyuk. If they want defensman maybe they should stop trading away their top prospects like Subban, McDonagh, Beaulieu and now Sergachyev (although I like the last deal made). Imagine having those 4 along with Davidson, Benn, and potentially Markov one the blue line this season.
Trading Galchenyuk could prove to be disastrous just like the Ryan McDonagh deal was.

So finally, be patient Habs fans, and management, let Alex Galchenyuk mature into the player he can be. It won't take much longer and we have to remember he is only 23 years old. Trading him now will not only have negative long term affects, but could potentially prove to hurt us in the short-term as well.
