Rouyn-Noranda Bests Montreal in Overtime 4-3

Montreal. Saturday, November 30, 2008. The Montreal Juniors were visitors to the Huskies in Rouyn-Noranda on Saturday night for the second of back to back road games this weekend. Montreal, who trail Rouyn-Noranda for first place in the Telus Western Division, gave the home team all they could handle and more but came up short against, losing 4-3 in overtime.

The Juniors were coming off of a road win on Friday night in Val D'Or and got off to a slow start, falling behind early.

Fighting their way back into the game after going down by 2 goals mid-way through the 2nd period, Montreal found their offense scoring 3 unanswered goals. Sparked by 2 goals from Angelo Esposito, his 11th and 12th of the season, and an assist on a goal by Nick Layton, Montreal grabbed a brief lead before Benoit Gervais of the Huskies set up Pier-Luc Giguère tying the game at 3 only one minute later.

The emotional contest was eventually pushed to overtime where Rouyn-Noranda defensemen Benoit Gervais struck again, scoring the game winning goal for the Huskies exactly 2 minutes into overtime. Jake Allen faced 36 shots but was unable to stop Gervais' 9th goal of the season, hading the Juniors their 13th loss of the season, 4-3 in OT.

Montreal will regroup with a week off to rest and recuperate before they return to the ice facing divisional opponents, the Gatineau Olympiques, on Saturday, December 6th at the Verdun Auditorium at 7pm.
