Aside from finishing school and being a free-lance aspiring writer I work at my buddies liquor store part time for some extra cash. We have a "regular" he buys McCormick Vodka, half-pints, daily. And during this past NHL season, knowing we are Flyer fans in the store, he would always ask me and my co-workers "When they gonna bring up Gauthier?" He was so set on it, he thought Gauthier was the solution to any defensive problem, any losing streak the Flyers might have been suffering through that particular week. It was absolutely hilarious, every time I would say respectfully, "The "new" NHL just doesn't really suit him I don't think." He would tell me I was nuts and I didn't understand real hockey. When they put Gauthier on waivers I couldn't wait to see him. I didn't end up seeing him again until after Gauthier had cleared, and was subsequently traded to LA for a bag of pucks and cap relief. Once I told him the bad news, his response was " well he was a bum anyway." I couldn't believe it, all that Gauthier boosting he had done for an entire year of hockey while the guy was in the AHL the entire season and once we trade him, he's garbage, we're moving on. I can't wait to find out which NEW flyer he'll start backing now, never a dull moment when you wait on the public, especially the drunk one's.

hahaha...yeah I thought Gauthier got a raw deal, being caught up in the scape-"goat"-ing that happened in the season before he was effectively demoted. He's a proven NHL player imo and didn't play so poorly that he deserved that...a victim of the Cap I suppose...but as far as payability, if a hobbled Hatcher and Smith could play, a healthy Gauthier could have too. Goat is a physical defensive defenseman with above average mobility... he can stay with and oncoming attacker and usually makes solid plays with the puck...he stands up for his teammates and is a good locker room guy Too bad he wasn't making a million less...I'd like to see him in the NHL again.

error correction: ^ should read "playability" not "payability"...but I guess it still works, lol...

You don't have to be a drunk to transfer loyalty from one player to another; just a 21st Century NHL fan! The players and the owners do it all the time, so why shouldn't the fans?

Unfortunately Gauthier's contract was much higher than his value as a player. He wasn't an upgrade so he stayed in the minors. He brought a physical element, but other than that is a very average defensman. Good to see he'll get another oppurtunity.
