Hey hockey fans across the US and Canada. Earlier in the week the Isles continued their own version of the pursuit of perfection against the New Jersey Devils. Unlike in their sub par performance against the Habs, the Isles came out to play, immediately stopping a Devils attack. The Isles drew two quick penalties on the same shift and turned that into Bill Guerin's highlight reel goal on the 5 on 3. Sillenger got the big goal early in the second period on a very rare New Jersey defensive let down, leaving Silly wide open in front. DP made a flawless outing only letting in, in my opinion a lucky goal in the 3rd making possibly the save of the year late in the 3rd.

Now, lets talk some rumors. During that same game against the Devils, the subject of the trade deadline was brought up. Stan Fishler was asked who he thought the Islanders would deal for at the deadline. His response was Jason Blake of the Toronto Maple Leafs. I personally do not know why he would say Jason of all people. If the Islanders did not want to pay Jason the big bucks for a long period of time in the off season, why would they be so willing to pay it now, especially now that Jason is having a very off year. I feel Jason would be near the bottom of the Islanders list.

This afternoon, I spoke with Eklund and he feels one guy the Islanders might deal for would be Rob Blake. All due respect to Ek, but I do not feel he would waive his NTC to come to Long Island and I feel the Isles focus as we near the deadline on Feb 26 should be offense. This brings me into talking about my own personal speculation about what the Isles will do at the deadline. I feel the Isles should try and package up Satan and Comrie and try to deal for something bigger on offense like a Marian Hossa or one of those offensive machines they have in Los Angles. The only problem in dealing them to L.A. would be, more than likely Satan and Comrie would have to agree to deals for next year, which more than likely will not happen. Now, I know people are going to ask me, why would you want to dump Comrie and Satan, and my answer is simple. Get what we can for these two, while we can. The Islanders have made it pretty clear that they are not going to willing to pay Satan 4.5 million again and Comrie does not sound like he wants to stay much longer already joking about a trade to Ottawa. If all else fails, maybe we could get a few first rounders and good prospects and bring up KO and Tamby for the playoff run. I truly believe though the Islanders will make the biggest deal @ the deadline even if we have to get rid of Satan and Comrie. But, the only way we make these deals is if we keep winning and stay close to a division title or playoff spot.
