What else can you say about another win in the "Battle of Alberta", 3 games vs the Oilers in the first 10 games of the season and another victory. This time there will be no witty retorts from Oiler fans about, Khabibulin handling the puck, last second tying goal. No this time it was a great 60 minute effort by the Flames, who, except for giving up too many penalties and 2 PPG's were a dominate team Sat night.
The total team effort, with scoring from Dawes(2), Bourque, Nystrom and Moss. Despite having to kill a plethora of penalties late in the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd, the Flames weathered the storm and walk out of the Saddledome with a convincing 5-2 victory. Dawes-langkow-Bourque was the best trio on the ice last night from both sides. Calgary's top line of Glencross-Conroy-Iginla didn't score, but worked hard and were very unlucky not to have lit the lamp.
My player of the game:
Robyn Regher, assigned with the task of shutting down the Oilers top line, and more importantly Dustin Penner, he hit Penner on every opportunity, Penner did score a goal on the PP late in the second.
My Take:
A solid 60 min effort, possibly the best game they have played all season, Olli Jokinen needs to play better and produce more. Kipper was solid in goal and made the big saves when called upon. The D-men were great at clearing the front of the net, and getting the puck moving forward.
The Flames continue the 5 game homestand, Wed Oct 28th vs the West Conference leading Avalanche, then finish up Halloween night vs the Red Wings

no excuses about any last second gaffes, but having a team that was run down by the flu certainly didn't help things... neither did the non call on Bourque when he cross checked our defender from behind during our PP to set up his eventual SH goal...

Oh come on Zackleias8 . How about the call's on Iggy in the first but nothing on Moreu when he fell over Kipper in the crease. The refs were far more forgiving on your poor sick team than ours. But whatever helps you sleep at night. Oh and there was a blatant high stick from I belive penner on Boyd that drew blood and no call.

Sad Sad Sad. There were plenty of missed calls that could have changed momentum at any given time that were missed. The call on Iggy was for Goalie Interference was just stupid when on the power play there is no call on Moreau for the exact same type of contact only in the crease and after Kipper had position. Bulin slid into Iggy. Interference should have been called on Bulin not on Iggy.
