Prospect camp is on. Generally I like the format and I like seeing how the prospects play amongst guys at a similar development level. I hate seeing incidents like with Kyle Greentree a couple years back where he was challenging to be a late cut but at the prospect tourney gets run from behind by an Oiler plug missing his shot. For what?

So who’s been bad and good? The consensus is Max Reinhart has been very good, playing an NHL style two way game and generating chances for himself and team mates. Baertschi has also played well if you remember he’s just 18 so still fairly young, he is very crafty and has above average (for this tourney) ice intelligence and playmaking ability. Obviously with two goals last game you have to say Holland has played well, not known for his offence he certainly has no trouble crashing the net and in the NHL a LOT of goals are scored by doing just that.

On the bad side you would have to say Brodie has been a disappointment. He’s wearing a big boy number but his defensive play still looks like shoddy AHL play. Offensively Brodie is never a concern and reminds me of a younger Giordano on that end. Bryan Cameron scored 53 goals as a senior at the Junior level but as a pro got 6 in 60 games, how many guys can’t make that jump? Cameron so far appears to be another victim. Negrin has not really impressed either and you have to wonder if it’s just rust with him after so much injury time. Dallas Efhardt made a couple plays in the last game that even made Junior seem unrealistic, he’s got the size so hopefully he gets some serious development in.

The game tonight against the Oilers prospects will be very interesting, we all hear about the oiler prospects and how bad the Flames prospects are so this matchup has some intrigue. It is expected Nemisz and Wahl will play again but will the Oilers pull their big guns out of the game the way they did last year? I honestly would not blame them for taking them out of harms way.

Honourable mentions for their play would be Sylvester, Horak and Bancks, I like that they look like they are motivated even though there is no chance they make the NHL.

Friday the NHL Veterans will start with their fitness testing and very very soon after that preseason games…. FINALLY!

Pretty stoked, got my Season ticket package. Finally hockey is here. Not so important anyone makes team as playing well enough to make a tough desision. The real opportunity could be in the spring if we sell off UFA's or next year with all the openings.

Yes they do and the smoked the Oiler's prospects which is all anyone ever hears about. Like I said the oiler prospects are the NHL team though.

I think Bancks could make it in a couple years... that Erhardt seemed pretty interesting as well, although I know nothing about him... obviously still a few years away... Ferland seems to have potential as well.

I think your concern over Cameron, Wahl, Nemisz (etc) is legit when you look at how prospects from 2010 have already surpassed them on the depth chart.

I think you can add irving to the list of players that will get left behind
