The sky is falling

One player during the pre-saeson stood out as a guy who came into camp that was game to play. He wanted a spot on the roster and he got one... just maybe in a little while.

Dustin Boyd, leading pre-season scorer, was assigned to Quad city today...why?? Well the Answer is because Rhett Warrener is on injured reserve and until he can be declared a long term injury where he doesn't count towards the cap or sent down they needed to clear space for the opening night roster.

You have to feel for sutin Boyd in this situation, his two way contract is a yoke around his neck and he did everything he could to shake it. He deserves his shot and when Rhett is sorted out he will get it.

On another note, judging by the line combos in practice, Eric Nystrom and Brandon Prust will not be in the line up against Vancouver. In my opinion that is letting Vancouver off the hook and is showing Keenans reluctance to use young players, it's frustrating to watch as Nystrom is one of the best forecheckers the Flames have and also one of the best penalty killers. Prust is a player that could have been used to draw some much needed penalties as well.

I would much prefer Nystrom to Primeau on the checking line because Nystrom can actually score.

What were the line combinations? I heard Conroy was playing between Bert and Iggy and Lombardi and Langkow were splitting time between Bourque and Cammalleri. Or was that yesterday...

I would hope that Boyd will be back up soon. Does anyone know if we can just buy out Warreners contract and let him hit the free agent market? Or does this also count against the cap. I took Boyd in my hockey pool anticipating that he might play with Moss and Glencross to form one hell of a fast third line!

By all accounts Rhett has to stay put for seven days until he clears medically or goes in long term reserve, either way it will be seven days before the Flames can clear him off and ship Boyd back. Boyd will be back Glen, just give it a week!Flamesin6.. That was Yesterday but with Keenan does it matter?? lol I think they're concerned about the defencive awarness of the top line, Langkow will start though imo.

If Keenan is let go who would you like to see brought in?The Flames would be a whole lot deadlier if they got some sort of power play going.P.S you guys really need to diversify the avatars.LOL

Its an auto avitar. I would like to see Sutter come back behind the bench. He got results and I think it was by being a hard ass like Keenan but in a way that showed more respect thus larger results. I think that Giordano and Bertuzzi will add alot to our power play. So long as big bert parks his ass in front of the net. Giordano has great handds to move the play well from the point.

Why not just send Rhett down? As I recall the rule is, any player under 35 who you send to the minors doesn't count against the cap...although placing him on LTIR allows them to spend his salary which is a bit different. They would have an additional $2.35M to spend as opposed to just $1.9M with him in the minors...and if he "comes back" from his "injury" they can just send him down then. Either way I hope this is cleared up soon so Boyd can be back up, there is absolutely no reason to put him in the minors right now.

That's a screwy situation. I don't think there's any doubt Boyd will be back as soon as possible though. This isn't any kind of reflection on Boyd's play...just the unfortunate fact that he has a 2-way contract that can be used until this roster mess is cleared up.

If Boyd has really been sent down for any real amount of time...there should be some management heads on a platter...

I would like to see an "x's and o's" coach in here (no not the hugs and kisses kind oilers fans) just due to the fact we have some talent and I think they need a new direction, not just "work hard" which in my opinion should go without saying. I'd like Quenville, he has enough of an edge that he can be a hard a$$ and enough of a hockey brain to utilize his stars the right way.

ugh.boyd doesn't have to clear re-entry waivers. he is the obvious choice to go down while sutter tries to move eriksson and warner. warner can't go down because he's on the IR.boyd will be back up momentarily.

So the way it will work, then, is that when Warrener gets off IR, he'll be sent down and Boyd brought back up? Makes sense.

Apparently Dustin Boyd has been recalled and Warrener has been put on the long term injured list. Guess Sutter just needed an extra day to do the paperwork?http://www.calgarypuck.com/2008/10/pr-warrener-on-long-term-injury-status/

i wonder if boyd ever flew down to Moline, or if he just stuck around in calgary? because that would probably be one of the worst 1 day travel spots you could go to

just like i said.
