Say what you will regarding the Calary Flames team defense, the seconday scoring, which is critical this season is heating up. Yes that pun is completley intentional and I do will not apologize for it!

Here's a quick look at the pace of the secondary guys:
Boyd: 30 goals 10 assists
Moss: 10 goals 19 assists
Bourque: 14 goals 29 assists
Conroy: 14 goals 24 assists
Glencross: 10 goals 19 assists

Only Wayne Primeau has yet to register a goal among the forward ranks of the Calgary Flames and if you have watched him this year you would not recognize him, he is a lot faster this year and it is only a matter of time before he gets his.

Lombardi has so far been a bit of a disappointment to the Flames managment, with so many fast players to play with he has been generally ineffective so far. His latest injury has also put a spotlight on how much the Flames just don't need him. No one has said, "if only Lombo was taking that faceoff!" or, "I can't believe he missed that chance...Lombo would have buried it." Instead the Fans have shrugged their shoulders and just said "oh well.". (Lombardi to anyone for anything E18.)

On another note after the G.M. meetings you know player moves were discusses so are the Flames looking for trade partners? There are teams interested in Aucoin but later in the season to make the hit easier, the standings of the flames will greatly affect this. It is all but done that he is gone before next season either way, his salary will make signing the squid (not my nickname for him, it was the genius of another blogger on here) all but done.

There will have to be another name player moved at some point to clear room to re-sign Bertuzzi which at this point and god forbid any major injuries aside is something the Flames and their fans will want. The depth on this team is defense, right now the Flames could call up 3 different guys (anders included I guess) and play him with no real worries so if I had to pick... Sarich would move...and not for much as his salary is fairly large but he can be excellent at shut down d. Backlund WILL play here next year so what center should move?? Well... it rhymes with bombardi.

I couldn't agree with you more Lief.... about Lombardi.. we had paul ranheim once.. his time is past..as far as Aucoin.. i'll drive him to the airport myself when it's time.. Sarich I really don't see moving anywhere.. he has been quite steady as is his role.. however, If neon Dion doesn't start learning to play defence real quick like, I'd be moving him up to left wing.. As with Lombardi.. we've already had a defenceman that could make some beautiful highlight reel hits .. but Denis Gauthier couldn't even make it back to the league last year.. Just wondering.. when Vandemeer gets back from his broken ankle... will it slow him down any? hahahhaa oh yea. guess that leaves Gio.. hmm not quite sold on him yet.. So yea.. lots of dmen on the farm.. but we may need them sooner than later to stabilize what passes as a defence corp before the season gets much further along

As a leaf fan, I would probably be willing to trade Steen for Lombardi. I think his game could be improved playing in the Eastern Conference.
