The media is sometimes a little laughable.

The Calgary Herald headline: "Willing To Waive" with a picture if Iginla

The Calgary Sun headline: "Iggy Believes!"...sound different?

I listen to the question, it was, (I'm paraphrasing here), "Iggy, there has been a lot of speculation regarding you being traded, can you give us your thoughts on that?"

He responded (again paraphrasing), "I love it here, I love playing here, my family is here I pretty much grew up here. this is where I've always played, I want to stay. If they asked me to be traded I will respect that but I want to stay. I want to win, I think we can win and that we are really close."

You wonder why players always give stock answers? And they say us bloggers just make stuff up!

It's strange, there are players already being signed to extensions, being recalled and coaches and G.M.'s being fired. The Flames brass is super quiet. I know they are doing their "evaluation process" but for some reason this quiet feels different and I have to wonder if it's because ownership hasn't made a final decision on Darryl Sutter.

Ian White, Eric Nystrom, Brett Sutter, Matt Pelech, Kris Chucko, Matt Keetley, Gord Baldwin, J.d. Watt, Brett Palin, David Van Der Gulik and Cam Cunning are all RFA's and have to have their qualifying offers.

Chris Higgins, Jamal Mayers, Craig Conroy, Brian McGrattan, Vesa Toskala, Colin Stuart, Carsen Germyn, Garth Murray, Andy Delmore are all UFA.

Marc Giordano will need an extension.

There is a draft and free agency.

There really is not a lot of time to sit there twiddling thumbs asking themselves how they did. Fans are demanding some action, we need something to make us believe soon!

I would love to see the penguins repeat, we need a new dynasty! On another note I love watching Datsyuk play hockey, that guy is simply amazing. The thing about watching the penguins and the Wings play is that they give me the number one center blues...

Do you trade him if the offer blows you away? Obviously you don't trade Iginla for nothing but what type of offer does it take for you to move him?

I trade iginla for no less than boston's pick, a top prospect and a tangable player with a salary like bergeron. Boston would not do this trade. I would trade him if the offer was incredible, and impossible to turn down. Look at what we got for nuiey-Iginla. look at what we got for fluery-Regehr, it's how you progress.

For me? A first and a top 6 forward under 25.

focus on Gio, the rest of that crop can be released or signed at a snails paceand yes, trade would work ONLY for a top 3 overall (pref Bostons pick) a top6 contract and maybe a lesser prospect. If we can't stock the cupboards, don't waste the time doing it.

There's no way the Bruins trade the pick for Iginla. Nieuwendyk, if that's the benchmark, netted the Flames a top prospect (Iginla) and a serviceable player (Millen). A comparable trade from Boston would be like Colbourne and Ryder.

a-mar- I was just pointing out that prospects help build teams, Nieuwendyk was under a contract dispoute at the time so his return could have been higher in my mind.

I think you are devaluing Iginla a little bit too much, a rebuild centered around Iggy, Bourque, Backlund, Gio, and Bouwmeester, with guys like glencross and nystrom is the way to go. Iginla will win a cup in Calgary, Sutter is the problem, not Iginla.

Saneopinion: I wasn't just responding to you... I've been seeing a lot of various Flames fans calling for Boston's pick and the kitchen sink in return for Iginla. Truth is that the salary cap devalues Iginla more than any contract dispute. Frankly, it just seems like it would be worth holding on to him as equal return for an amazing player isn't very likely.

Agree 100% Sane. I've been thinking the same thing. Since the Stajan signing not much has come from the GM's office not even extensions to AHL players. As much as I'd like to see White stay I'd rather have Gio stay longer. If we could unload sarich and staios then I'm ok with our 6 d being Regehr, White Jay Bo

Sarich was a different guy with gio, I loved that pairing! I still really like our defence but I think if they seriously want to bring a guy in up front then Regehr would be the best guy to move if possible due to salary. Iginla is not going to be traded but that boston deal is pretty much the only one that would make me think about it.

I think Iggy is a great player but I think his trade value is overpriced in a lot of your eyes. I think trading him to Tampa for Vinny and a 2nd is the only trade you are going to get. You woul dhave Lecavalier for 10 years! Iginlas is just the type of player Tampa needs as well.

No Point trading a winger for a center that needs a center! lol Iginla has intagable trade value, for instance a really nice role model, black player in atlanta... can you imagine the revenue from jersey's and such. He's a leader, a warrior and posses a shot that, say what you will, only a few guys have in the league.
