The perfect solution.

Sometimes life hands you a perfect solution.

Ian White is really under rated and he knows it, he was 8th in goals by a defenseman last year and 29th in points by a defenseman, no one talks about it but that is really good. As his agent you would look at comparables right? Who also had 38 points and what do they get paid? I'll tell you.

Campbell- $7.1 Million
Kubina- $5.0 Million
Timonen- 6.3 Million

Looks like bad news for Sutter right?

During arbitration nasty nasty things will be said about a player to negatively affect how much they will be awarded so it almost always means that player will not be returning after the contract year, especially when the comparables are even more against you. With Giordano becoming a UFA after this season and most certainly a guy that will be offered big money by Calgary it seems that White is destined to be here one more year. Either by arbitration or by negotiation he will be here or risk not playing a year in the NHL which would mean a lot less money for him. UNLESS....

An offer sheet comes.

Now if you are a team looking for a goal scoring D and you think you could sign him for less than $3.09 million then all you would give up is a second round draft pick nest year. If you think you can sign him to an offer sheet but don't want to get in a bidding war wouldn't offering a 2nd rounder THIS year to a team devoid of any picks in the first two rounds make sense?

Sutter stated outright that it's not realistic to have more than three high paid Defensemen, right now Regehr, Sarich, Bouwmeester and Staios all fit in that category. Now you have to add White with Giordano in line for an extension and young guys that deserve a shot knocking loudly on the door.

Moving White, who is worth something, for just a decent pick ion the draft might make a lot of sense. Moving out another on the list above (we all know bouwmeester isn't going anywhere) would also be a good move because you will get some return for a Regehr.

Just some possible movement thoughts there. They have a glut of defense so move it for what you need!

P.S. Ryan Howse was invited to Dev.Camp. he deserves it after challenging for the WHL goal scoring title.

We need to keep white or what was that trade for Phaneuf even for!!!! White makes the trade acceptable.

That trade was unacceptable to begin with, I guess you hope hagman and Kotalik pot 20 each. White will only get one year either way I think and if that's the case then Sutter should move him and open a new chapter.

We need to at least sign him even if we trade him at least sign him.

ImKindofaBigdeal, I enjoy your act in the forums but stop it with the worthless spamming. Regarding White, Sutter will get him signed IMO. Even he's not dumb enough to take a guy like that to arbitration and he does have the cap room. He'll keep him for no other reason than self-preservation; he doesn't want to admit the Dion deal was a failure. I've said it before, I'm not so much worried about not being able to re-sign guys as I am about being able to spend money after that.

The perfect situation is unloading Regehr in a package for either Spezza, or by himself for a 2nd. I like your abstract thinking on this tho.

We can resign Geo when Staois term ends, white has to be signed3 yrs 8mill is fair. Kotalik to Russia, Reger to as much as we can get

I would love that play Kevin.

Kevin, Sutter has stated he think having only 3 "high priced" d is realistic. There's at least three kids ready to play and more the year after...

s kaspar- I totally agree, he can't admit it but that is why the offer sheet would be a perfect solution, kind of a face saver for him.

Sane! I know but I like Staios but why we traded for him is beyond me. We need to move 2 of our hi$$$ dmen to make room for white

We seriously have to move some players to make room for White .

This defense is a mess. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Sound minded flames fans. Bow is staying, Regg for a second, which if sane you remember I suggested at the end of the season. Buy out Staios...... come on who likes this guy ON THE ICE. You then sign White with no mess because he is a heck of a talent and bring up Peelach and Negrin.
June 12, 2010 9:37 PM ET | Delete
Then at the deadline and we have Peelach and Negrin both with experience and assuming right now with a positive outlook that they are both progressing you can bait Sarich. ( He will probably be just coming back from another injury and will be fresh! Haha) Add some scoring or take a pick and add room to the cap for the following off season.
