"Let's Go Flyers"
United States, PA • United States •
Every end of August brings the excitement of the opening days of NHL camps everywhere. The smell of the freshly zamed ice, the first cut made in the ice by the powerful skates of NHL players. But, when camp opens everyone makes predictions. Now I understand they are just predictions but come on people, are they really necessary?

Predictions for the new season start after the first time teams have set foot on the ice, and most of the time the predictions favor the persons favorite team. I understand that everyone wants their favorite team to win the Lords Cup, but when is enough enough?

Enough is enough when you have Ranger's fans saying the forwards alone will score 250 goals. Enough is enough when people make predictions of teams wining the cup. Those teams probablly will not even make the playoffs.

I amd a Flyer's fan and have been my whole life and even I get excited when the new season is about to begin, but even I do not go running my mouth saying we have the cup this year. I simply get excited look at the talent and watch the season unfold.

I leave you all with one last question. If our predictions meant something, then why play the game?

I would agree but we are fans and it is our job to talk our teams up as much as possible without crossing the line. i think my canucks have a much better chance than most people give them credit. but will I say that Luongo will win 60 games? no as much as i would love to see that( 50 could be possible) we as fans get excited and tend to shoot our mouths off add beer and you really get a loud mouthed fan. its our job but yes we do take it too far sometimes.

So I predicted 250. Who predicted Buffalo's forwards scoring 280 last year? Anything can happen.

Its part of the fun of being a fan. Sometimes its difficult to look at things objectively when your excited about the off season aquisitions and the season is about to begin. We can all suffer from Homeritis now and then. Sure, Pwoz did his blog on the "best case scenerio" but its not impossible, just very unlikely. Hows that saying go? "Opinions are like....". Well, you know what I mean. Its my understanding that this area of the site is for "fan" blogs and therefor jounalistic integrity need not apply. That being said - a blogger better have thick skin when letting there Homer shine.

Predications are fun, especially when experts predict your team to do well. The Hockey News and a slew of other experts picked the Ducks to win the cup last year and they did. This year the Hockey News and many others picked them to win again. These predictions help make the off season a bit more fun while we all wait for the real fun to begin.

and to add a little to what jpducks said, the hockey news picked the flyers to finish 9th and out of the playoffs. i actually like that better than being picked to win the cup. it gives the flyers extra incentive to come in as an underdog and shock some people. then again i just want a cup period. but that is our duties as fans to predict these things. nobody in their right mind actually thinks they will come true. it is our jobs as fans to predict and the players jobs to go out and prove us right/wrong. all in good fun.
