"Let's Go Rangers!!"
Patchogue, NY • United States •
I've been looking around on different forums, and comments on articles written about the Rangers signing of Donald Brashear.

Sure, he may not be the most loved player in the league, nor will he win any Lady Bing trophies in his career.

But this signing was absolutely necessary for the Rangers, and unlike most ranting, a smart move by Glen Sather.

Orr left the Rangers for Toronto, leaving the Rangers with absolutely ZERO intimidation. We all know Sean Avery isn't going to go fisticuffs with the likes of Ott, Laraque or Parros. What's to stop these, and other dirty players, from taking runs at our only real offensive threat, Marian Gaborik?

Gabbo is already known to be injury prone, and I for one feel secure knowing there is a menacing force on the bench of our home team that will answer the call when needed and make the other team think twice about doing something stupid.

So please, Ranger fans, let's not give Brashear the boo-birds when he arrives at the Garden, but embrace him as the protector of our rather small team. I feel like he wants to be here, so let's give him the proper respect. Remember, he's a Rangers now... who liked Avery when we brought him in? Now look, we love him to death.

Also, give props to Sather, for doing what he can to clean up the mess he made, which I think he's doing a good job of so far.

The problem we have with Brashear isn't all about Brashear the player; we feel that we overpaid somewhat for his services. Is he any kind of an upgrade over Orr. It doesn't even look like we tried to re-sign Orr? $1.4 million per is a fair amount to pay for an "enforcer".

And I'll be the first guy off of the couch screaming for him when he whoops up on an "Islander Player to be Named Later."

I could not agree more 49... I was not in the office with Slats and I don't know how hard they tried to keep Orr but when it comes down to filling that roll Brashear does it better. In a fight between the two I would put my money like the Rangers did on Brashear. I will forget about the Betts hit when he squashes Parise like a bug...

I would have put my money on Brash 5 years ago but a 37 year old enforcer? Would have rather kept Orr, not that we tried at all. Sather turned his back on a kid that worked hard for the team and signed an over-the-hill goon. No problem with the amount of money but if you're going to spend, spend wisely. Not that Sather ever has.

I'm a fan of Brash but the last couple of Philly years and a Cap years, it was turning into the Brash show. There are times where he put himself first and his agenda first compared to putting the team first. I haven't read the other blogs. One of the best fighters out there when he's on his game. Wonder if he will go after Ovie now...

Becuase of what he did to Betts and because Orr is younger and cheaper. Just to name a few things. But he is now on our team and I will root for him.

It is worth noting that the Caps made Nylander a healthy scratch in the playoffs against the Rangers to open a spot for Brashear. Apparently, Boudreau liked what Brashear brough to the ice and to the locker room.

Why hate Brashear,... cause he's a talentless pylon who won't go toe to toe with heavy weights.

scuba, your post is beyond false. Brash has more NHL fights than any active player. By far! He has faught and dominated most of the heavies in this league, except for Laraque, which Brash may have had the best of. He is a better fighter than Orr, thats not taking anything away from Orr because he is top 5, but like previously mentioned Brash sometimes lets his own personal agenda get in the way of the teams.

I hope Orr comes in and kicks the shit out of him. He's a good for nothing goon, and a dirty player. He'll probably be suspended for most of his tenure anyway.

In the end, Ranger fans will probably like Brashear. He is a better fighter and a better player than Orr. Believe it or not, he can actually play a little. I was quietly hoping the Flyers would bring him back. Riley Cote has a lot of heart but is basically a punching bag.
