opening night roster fun

Posted 12:13 PM ET | Comments 0
Well alrighty.... that was a fun and interesting fiasco that was setting the final 23 (24) man roster.

Not often do you see players sent down to the Oklahoma City Blazers. Especially 2 players that are NHL ready. The stars had to get their roster down to 23 before they could get the LTIR for Sergei Zubo and his hip surgury fun. Once that was granted Chris Conner, who was kept on the 23 man, was sent down to Peoria and Fistric and Neal were recalled from Oklahoma City. Francis Wathier, who was injured, was also sent down to Iowa.

The other interesting part of this was Janik being placed on waivers and being claimed by Chicago. Dallas then sent a 7th round draft pick to Chicago to get him back. haha, good times. So now our roster is set...

Forwards
Sean Avery
Krys Barch
Fabian Brunnstrom
BJ Crombeen
Loui Eriksson
Jere Lehtinen
Joel Lundqvist
Mike Modano
Brenden Morrow
James Neal
Steve Ott
Toby Petersen
Mike Ribeiro
Brad Richards

Defesemen
Philippe Boucher
Trevor Daley
Mark Fistric
Nicklas Grossman
Doug Janik
Matt Niskanen
Stephane Robidas

Goaltenders
Tobias Stephan
Marty Turco

IR
Sergei Zubov

So how will this shake up for Friday nights opening against those Blue Jackets?

Lehtinen is nursing a groin injury so he may be out along with Zubov. So here is my prediction for the lines on opening night....

Brenden Morrow - Mike Ribeiro - Fabian Brunnstrom
Joel Lundqvist - Brad Richards - Loui Eriksson
Steve Ott - Mike Modano - Sean Avery
James Neal - Toby Petersen - BJ Crombeen
*Jere Lehtinen
*Krys Barch

Nicklas Grossman - Stephane Robidas
Trevor Daley - Matt Niskanen
Mark Fistric - Philippe Boucher
*Doug Janik

That is how I think Tip will set it up. However, Ribeiro likes to play with a right shot and a left shot. Unfortunately we only have 2 forwards that are a right shot... Jere Lehtinen who will be the RW on that line if he is healthy and BJ Crombeen. Now I thought that Crombeen was one of our hardest working and most productive players in preseason and in training camp. So why not give hime a shot at it? I dont think it will happen, but he is the only other right shot.

I think that Tippett will probably be juggling all osrts of stuff around anyway so this is probably a fruitless attempt, but oh well.

Hockey season begins (for real) tonight. The stars kick it off tomorrow. It is finally upon us!!!
