Not Hungry Enough

Needing two points to keep their playoff hopes alive the Predators came up against a team that was just more hungry than they were. The Washington Capitals looked like a desperate team playing in desperate times and wanting desperately to get two points closer to the post season (did I use the word desperate enough in that sentence? ). The Preds on the other hand played the first period like they just came from a team meeting at Golden Corral Buffet!

Missing was the sharp play from Dan Ellis. Missing was the spirited physical play that helps us set the tone. Missing was the heart and soul of this team. Where was it when the puck was dropped last night.

A fellow Pred fan asked me yesterday, prior to the game, if I thought the Preds were going to make the playoffs. As much as I wanted to say yes I really think that this team is not prepared and won't make the playoffs. Sure they can play those games and beat the Wings on the road and look like world beaters but then they can lay an egg against the Kings at home. This team is missing consistency and not just from one part of the game. From goaltending to defense to coaching this team is never the same twice.

Fellow Pred fans...the fat lady has not begun to sing yet but she is standing in the wings warming up. If the Preds don't find some consistency quickly it looks like we will be watching the Av's and Canucks in a spot that easily could have been ours.

I agree with you about not making the playoffs. The guys looked like they were drowning in quick sand last night and I was embarrassed for them. You are right about the inconsistency and I blame Trotz for all aspects. Sh*t rolls downhill and it starts with him. He needs to stop twitching his eyebrows and show some emotion! As far as I'm concerned, the lady has sung.

We're done. I'm an eternal optimist, but there's no way we make it in unless we play out of our minds for the next two weeks. And we're not consistent or healthy enough for that to happen.

Has anyone done the Math on who we need to lose? In order to get in. Personally I think its a mute point.Flannel109 I agree 100% Trotz needs to go. We need a bobby Knight type coach.. that would knock the rust and laziness out of this team..

Piece of cake - (HAHA) Wild lose to sharks, flames, oil, oil, avs, flames, avs and beat canucks twice. Avs lose to flames, oil, flames, oil and beat canucks, wild, canucks, wild. Canucks lose to oil, wild, flames, avs, wild, avs, oil and beat flames twice. Flames lose to avs, oil, canucks, oil, canucks and beat avs, wild, canucks and wild. Wild at 90 points, Avs at 92 points, Canucks at 88 and Flames at 92. Preds win 7 out of last eight (right) and we end up with 94 points. Of course, with the oil winning 8 they end up at 95 points and 7th place while we make it to 8th. (This was done as a joke...please don't take it as more than that!) Next season with draft, free agents, new owners, a new lease, and a fresh, uncluttered off-season so we can enter '08/'09 with fewer distractions is looking pretty good to me.

PS: Each team's games I listed are in the order they are to be played. (Unless I missed one or two, which is entirely possible.)

As much as I hate to say it, I dont believe we are making it to the playoffs either. I will still be there cheering my team on at every home game but I just dont feel they want it bad enough this year. Its like they are resigned to finish this season out and start out next year hopefully fresh and BETTER. Question for anyone who knows.. Has Hlavac ever played with Erat before.... It seems to me they have a really good chemistry on the ice? The best thing about the game against Washington the other night was the chance for me to get some really good shots of AO during warmups. Other than that it was a definite bust for me.

Hlavac 5 yrs older than Marty and has not played with him as far as I can find. They played on different junior teams in Czech Rep and diff teams during lockout. Maybe they've skated somewhere together informally at times?
