So…I guess I showed my true colors last night in the Sharks – Red Wings game. It was the moment (you’ll remember it) when Grier was pursuing Lindstrom and Hasek came out to play the puck. Hasek goes to play it off the boards and Grier intercepts it and goes for a sure thing wrap around just as Niklas “faster than a speeding bullet” Lindstrom comes sailing in and blocks what would have been the game tying goal. It was at that moment that years of frustration against the Wings swelled to a crescendo and I yelled “Yes!” as I thought Grier had tied the game.

My wife, ever so innocently, asked “who are you rooting for?” It was then, actually with some embarrassment, that I had to come clean. Not only to her but to myself. Yes. I was rooting for the Sharks. I was rooting against the team that I grew up loving. The team that I watched play really bad hockey as a young kid. I was rooting against the Red Wings.

Let me say this…when the Preds and Wings were locked in a battle for the central this year I was 110% all Preds…in the past after the Preds were eliminated I would normally root for the Wings but something has changed. What was it? I’m not sure but I think it has something to do with the fact that I am sick and tired of looking up at the Wings. Maybe next year we can knock them off their pedestal. Maybe next year…

Don't count on it. The Wings will be on top for years to come. And it is Lidstrom, not Lindstrom. Go Wings!!!

I understand your hatred! I can pretty much live with any team winning, so long as it isn't Detroit, Montreal or Toronto!!

As a Blues fan this was a hard series to pick who you wanted to advance. The Detroit team that has plagued you for the past decade, or the Sharks team that embarrased your president trophy winning team. After considering that the Sharks no long had Owen Nolan and the ugliest man in hocke Mike Ricci it was easy. Oh well lets go ducks!

What's the Wings' farm system like? You're going to have a lot of trouble being around for years to come when you literally have no goalies after this year... I mean there is always UFA, but that doesn't always work out the way you would hope.

People have been waiting for the Wings "fall" for how many years now? The fact of the matter is that we have been successful for two main reasons: our owner and front office. Mr. Ilitch has made a strong commitment to excellence and has created a culture of winning where players want to be in our organization. We have been able to keep our core players for this very reason. As far as our future is concerned, look at our front office. We have been light years ahead of most of the NHL for many years now in terms of scouting, the draft and player development. And we haven't had the luxury of a top 10 draft pick since we drafted Keith Primeau (should have taken Jagr, obviously). Datsyuk and Zetterberg will lead this team for many years to come and we have plenty of prospects that would be on many NHL rosters if not in Detroit. With the salary cap increasing, we will also have the ability to sign more free agents too. We no longer have the Hall of Fame lineup that we boasted in 2002, but we are still are an elite team and will remain that way. Your team has done a nice job of collecting decent players, but what happens when Forsberg and Kariya bolt in the offseason?

DirtyMick, the thought has been that Jimmy Howard will take over in net. He was drafted out of Maine and had a dominant college career. He has been decent at Grand Rapids in the AHL and could take over next year. However, it wouldn't surprise anyone in the organization if Hasek re-signs for another year. He has been outstanding this season and I can't believe his name doesn't even get mentioned at all for the Vezina. How many of them are still playing now too??
