As a Sens fan this is something that has been on my mind this season, if Mats Sundin were to decide to waive his no-trade clause and seek out a contender to join for a chance to win a cup, would I want to see the Sens go after him???
All trash talking and bad blood between the two teams aside, Mats Sundin is one heck of a hockey player with plenty left in the tank and in my opinion would be a huge addition to any team out there looking for that one last piece of the puzzle, which has basically been the Sens for the past couple seasons. The real issue with all this is what would the sens have to give up in order to land him? would you as a fan be willing to sacrifice players on the line of a Vermette or Eaves or maybe Mezsaros plus possible a draft pick or two?? losing that kind of talent for what could essentially become a rented player???
The reality of all this is it could do a lot for both teams and further a rivalry which has all but dissapeared since the lockout, I know I hardly get exceited for sens-leafs games anymore and seeing some ex-senators on the other side would sure make the game a lot more interesting, and leaf fans imagine watching your beloved captain possibly raise Lord Stanley's cup above his head wearing Ottawa Senators colours!!
So you can see by all this im completely on the fence about what I would like to see done with this, I would sure love to have a Mats Sundin on my team, but would be real hesitant about giving up some of the young talent that would be needed to land him...all i do know is he would be a heck of an addition to any team looking to make a strong push in the playoffs this year!!
what kind of opinions/emotions does this stir up among all you readers???

It would be amazing to have him on the 2nd line centring Alfie but I just don't think it will happen. It would make the Sens the favourite in the East (even more so) to go to the finals and would make them serious contenders for the big prize, but I'm sure JFJ would rather get less from another team than trade their captain to the Sens. I do like your point about heating up the rivalry with such a trade, but unfortunately I don't think it will happen.

ya i agree with what your saying, I really dont think Sens would actually end up with Sundin, but its an interesting thing to think about!

I would love to have Sundin, but he'd be just a rental and we'd have to lose too much and see players like vermette and eaves with the leafs. Plus the leafs will never ever ever do that. Everyone knows that

The only problem ith this is why in the world would JFJ want to make the Senators even better than they are now? I'm a Sabres fan and I don;t know how much better the Sens can even get, but unless Bryan Murray is willing to give up a ton, maybe even the kitchen sink, JFJ would be crazy to deal Sundin in the conference, not to mention to a team inside his own division.

Sens can't afford Sundin. It would take way too many woung guys to bring him in as a rental. They don't need a guy as good as Sundin to improve enough to contend for the Cup again. THey only need a guy who is capable of putting up 30 goals and who performs in the playoffs. A guy like Dumont would be sufficient.
