Well almost a week since the Gods brought us NHL08, and I still play it way too much. I will be getting the online league going very shortly-it's already just about set to roll. I can't say enough good things about this game, I really feel like I am a shill for the site sponsor, but it's true. I have played maybe two hours of other games since the package arrived with Eric Staal's countenance.

I apologize to those who I have missed on-line. I have been messing around with the various play modes more than playing games on line.

-Thanks to Jeremy at Aramark for clearing up my questions about the shipping of my new RBK Flyers jersey.

-Anson Carter is on a tryout basis in Edmonton. Good for the walking rumor mill. Hopefully he'll find success in Edmonton and I'll never have to hear (~) or whatever the symbol for him is being an e4 to anywhere else.

-I personally think bringing in Robert Esche for the Rangers would be a big mistake. The guy has talent, but he's a noted headcase. He's not going to start and I really think the Rangers room could be pretty volatile without Esche. Just my two cents, but they could find a more stable guy for about the same money.

-Does XM's Hockey Today show do any research outside of digging in their posterior? I cringe every time they offer an opinion on the Flyers. The latest was suggesting that Lasse Kukkonen could be moved to make room for Mike Rathje. Uh, guys, Rathje will need to be Scott Stevens or Zdeno Chara in camp to make the team. The Flyers can easily afford a $3.5mm defenseman in the AHL.

-While I think Carey Price is talented enough to grab the Montreal goalie job, I'd start him off in the AHL, unless somebody made me an offer that knocked my socks off for Christobal Huet or Jaro Halak. There's no need to rush Price, unless he's Kenny Dryden in camp.....which he might be.

-Got to see Washingon prospect Niklas Backstrom and Karl Alzner at a rookie camp game versus the Flyers rookies. Alzner was impressive, Backstrom looked disinterested despite showing some flashes. One guy who looked really good was former Bowling Green forward Jon Matsumoto. He spent time last year in the AHL with the Phantoms.

-My daughter is currently listening to the Original cast recording of "Mary Poppins" ad nauseum. As a result, I now hate chimney sweeps on general principles.

-Thoughts and prayers to Sabres defenseman Teppo Numminen, as he faces another heart operation. Teppo has long been a classy player and a guy I have always rooted for. Get well soon.

-I have also started a diet, so I am grumpy of late. It sucks being a finicky eater and having to cross off a lot of good things from the shopping list. I am tempted to go the Lindsay Lohan diet route and just do massive amounts of blow.

-The HB movie poll has taken a bit of a back seat, but never fear. I will make every effort to get the thing up and going again. Hopefully, I'll have the top five ready to go in a week or so to open up for votes.

-Just like to re-acquaint everyone with the idea that Number 23 had for those of us that don't have tickets for the Flyers home opener to gather at a local establishment and have food, drink and watch the game.

-I also have come to despise nannies....It just drones on for hours and hours and hours....

-Finally, I place my advocacy for the following guys to captain their teams: Simon Gagne for Philadelphia and Adam Mair for the Sabres

Excellent blog as always, Jsaq. Diets indeed suck. I once lost 125lbs. Still rather meaty, but more to love. Your pal,BD

Thanks BD. This is really the first time I have attempted a diet, so it's hard going. But if I can drop the weight, I might even start playing roller hockey again.

I recommend the Gump Worsley Diet. Whiskey, cigarettes and tending goal for the early-60's NY Rangers. Maskless.

Awww.. Good luck on your diet. Think of how sexy your wife will think you look in your new Flyers jersey.. :S

Sing it with me JS...Chim chimney chim chimney chim chim cher ree. Missed ya at camp but met up with Nic and goalieguy95 and had fun. Did you or 23 make it at all? Nice blog. SYF

Gagne captain? Smith is a Primeau-type heart and soul guy. If Gagne is such a leader where was he last season? We have three former Captains. Let's go with one of those. Why bring in that leadership to squander it on a talented player who may not be ready to be captain (and possibly never will be)

Sami Kapanen should be your Captain for this year - he is the heart and soul of the team. The next one after that will be Mike Richards. SYF

Thanks for the shout-out, and don't hate on nannies... you guys could use one!Unfortunately, I didn't meet anyone at the Meet the Flyers gig (didn't put out notice I was going). And my choice for captain is still Kapanen... but I wouldn't mind Smith.

If you're tooling around in NHL 08 and you play the Sens, look for Andrej Meszaros. He's right handed instead of left handed - something they didn't fix from 07. He must be laughing/crying himself to sleep.
