'Tis the season to go shopping Fa la la la la la la la la la.....
Go and get me something funny Fa la la la la la la la la

Buy me now a Flyers jersey Fa la la la la la la la la....
Drink some beer and get real merry Fa la la la la la la la!!!

-Steve Downie is out of control and needs to be stopped!!! He had another incident, this one with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms. Downie got into a fight, refused to get off the guy he was fighting, then had a fit in the penalty box, getting in the face of officials and punching the glass in the sin bin twice getting tossed in the process.

He had a nice little meeting with Phantoms coach Craig Berube and Flyers GM Paul Holmgren in the dressing room. This kid has serious issues in controlling himself and there's a real chance he might injure another player because he can't control his emotions.

-Nice trade by Brian Burke in sending Andy McDonald to St Louis for Doug Weight, prospect forward Michal Bernir and a 7th rounder in 2008. The biggest coup is that the trade allows last season's Conn Smythe winner, defenseman Scott Niedermayer to return to the Anaheim line-up.

McDonald is a good little pivot, durable fast and good hands. But he was struggling with the absence of Teemu Selanne this season. Weight has also been struggling badly, but played well in his Ducks debut. Still, If I were the Blues, I owuld have demanded a little more for allowing the Ducks to ice one of the top defensive corps in recent memory.

-I have to give a lot of credit to the Devils and rookie head coach Brent Sutter. Picked by many folks to finish on the wrong side of the playoff cut line, the Devils have a 4 point lead in the Atlantic division after a rough start. They still do a great job of playing shut down defense when they have a lead and even have played a few exciting games, to boot.

-After seeing the Candiens destroy the Flyers twice in the space of a month, I wonder how it is that they seem so inconsistent.

-Joffrey Lupul's hot week has done more than excite Flyers fans, it even got Flyers analyst Steve Coates to stop calling him "Jeffrey Lupul"

-It's really awful for the Maple Leafs that Bryan McCabe borke his wrist and will miss significant time. McCabe's all around game has improved a great deal and losing his services will really hurt the Leafs.

-With the release of the Mitchell report, Major League Baseball has honestly done little but expose past cheats-and it was probably only about 5-10% of thos ethat DID use steroids and HGH and other PED's. My hope is that the NHL and NHLPA get pro-active in ensuring that hockey never faces such an episode. I am not saying there is an problem, but ignoring any potential problem, like MLB did, could be a long term black eye for hockey.

-Chris Simon should be banned from the NHL following his two step on the foot of Jarku Ruuttu. Simon played all of 26 games since finishing his 25 game suspension for going Barry Bonds on Ryan Hollweg's head. Sounds to me like long suspension don't really work for Mr Simon.

-Interesting week-the Ducks and Sharks face each other 3 times this week. Their first 3 games have all been decided by shoot-out.

-BTW, I like the fact that Mike Richards will be a Flyer until my 3 year old daughter starts to date. Of course I will be doing my best to push the life of a nun on her...Happy Holidays to all, and remember, feel free to send me stuff from my amazon.com wishlist...

Happy Holidays Pookie! I hope Santa brings you something decent this year, but I don't think he'll come within 20 miles of Philly, not for all the cheesesteaks on South Street.

Very nice JS ! Downie is exactly what the NHL does not need. McDonald will do better on a new farm e-i-e-i-o. The MLB has turned Americas Pastime into a market for future Sureal Life cast members. The Sharks and Ducks will go to a shootout in every meeting between the 2 this year, and a happy holidays to you too buddy! Great job as always

Stick Downie and Simon in a room together. Who ever comes out gets to stay in the NHL.

BTW, hadn't heard about Downie's latest. It's ashamed that he either hasn't or won't learn that there are consequences in life. If he doesn't figure that out soon, then it's likely that his career will continue a downward spiral. It's almost as if he doesn't care.

Watch the video....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mdr3Oq_M9cI don't think it is as bad as it was made out watching it. Good post JS I like that Coastey has finally gotten Lupul's name right.

Am I the only one who is a little bit miffed that Joffrey got kinda screwed in the three stars selection? I mean if you just look at the numbers, his are pretty much exactly the same as Iggy's for the week and better than zubov's. Now, I'll give you Iggy, since a couple of his were game winners, but how does Zubov get the #2 star for the week? Am I being petty or an ingrate?
