Some Good News...

There is some good news coming out of the Tank tonight....David Pollack is reporting than a tentative agreement has been reached with Ryan Clowe so it appears he will be staying in San Jose for at least a few more years

Although the contract has not been finalized as of yet, Clowe had stated that SJ is the only place he really wants to be. The only thing holding up the actual signing is the term of the contract, which Clowe will be able to decide upon according to a source inside the organization. For me, Clowe was a major piece of the team that needed to be locked in and now I can rest easy on at least one matter.

Pollack is also very confident that come Tuesday when free agency starts, Patrick Marleau will be with the team to start the new era under Todd McLellan. After hearing the way Mclellan talked about Marleau and his speed up the middle, I had a strong feeling Patty would be sticking around. His style fits perfectly with the system McLellan seems to want to implement, a fast moving up the middle puck-possession game that focuses on "oh-fence."

There was another development that was mentioned in the blog, which is of a less cheerful nature. Curtis Brown will not be offered another contract by the Sharks. Pollack mentions that he only played roughly 30 games this past season after suffering a hand injury and that his spot on the penalty kill has been filled by the up-and-comer Torrey Mitchell (the best rookie no one outside of SJ talked about).

I find it really disgracefull that the sharks would rank rismiller higher than Brown. During the playoffs when brown was playing u would see more exitment and devotion to playing the right way. But i guess the sharks want to sign Goc and Rismiller the two players that in my mind are much much worse than brown.

I think DW is picking players that he and McLellan feel are going to work best in the system that is going to be implemented. But I liked Brown to, and would have preferred him to stay over Goc for sure.

I was sad to read that too about Brownie this morning. And I wouldn't be surprised if Riss ends up in TO...and then what? IMHO, we still need Brownie...

Goc and Riss are both not that good. Brown is a great guy and leader. Brown is twice the player Riss can be!! Goc is a HUGE waiste of space!!! Mark Smith is twice the player Goc!! We should have never let him go. Now we're letting Brown go...lame!!Sucks!!!

I find it interesting that so many are ready to throw Rissmiller in front of the bus, when many forget how effective he was with Mitchell and Grier on the Penalty Kill all season (which was one of the best). Unfortunately Mitchell has made Brown somewhat expendable. As for Goc, he does have a lot of upside to his game, and was centering the Second line (quite well too) before Jumbo Joe came to town. If you can look to anything that has hindered his development and game it could rest on the previous Coaching Staff

Brown is a decent player, if he could stay healthy the whole season, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Brownie has the best back hand on the team and is good at take aways. Riss at least is able to lay some hits once in a while, not really sure why it was so few and far between, though he is a Woostah/4th line depth guy at best in my book? If Goc sticks around another year, he had better figure out a way to contribute, he seems to bounce around trying different things without really excelling in anything but maybe face offs. If only the guy could put something in the net or actually pass to his own team, he would be easier to keep in the line up.
