Looking Back At Our Trade

Posted 12:17 PM ET | Comments 10
Well on July 1st some teams were bragging about snagging some star player, some teams were crying because they weren't able to sign their teams prized player and then their was us. By us I mean Pred fans who were walloping around just waiting for the season to start as we all knew nothing was going to happen and nothing ever did. Their really wasn't any reason to party unless you didn't like Marek Zidlicky who was traded. Yeah that's right he was traded to the Minnesota Wild but heck I don't know if there was a dark cloud over Poiles office or something as we got a ridicolous return for him. I mean we got a prospect who just finished college and probably won't be playing in the big leagues for a year or two and a 2nd round pick next year!

I mean everyone I talk to says "oh he was so great in college" but what people need to notice is anyone can do awesome in college! The NHL is a way faster, way bigger and way more physical than the college game and seriously if we put him in the lineup this year he'll get pummeled. Like at least do a little more thinking Poile, you should've tryed to grab someone who's already in the NHL but is on the block like Mark Parrish or something just so we can get a good player on our roster now not in two years! I'll always give our GM trust so I'm not hating him or anything it's just sometimes I do doubt he has all the wisdom everyone is saying.

So then I start to wonder about why everyone wasn't not into Zid as he put up a huge amount of points for a d man and it's not like he did anything wrong to us fans right! Like really what's not to like about him, oh right his penalty minutes but like come on it's not like he commits every single penalty for the team at every game! Their is always going to be an upside and a downsidde to players but I definitely felt like the upside beat out the downside for a few reasons.

1) Well if we get rid of him who the heck is going to put the points up on defense as our offensive d-men can't produce a quarter of Z put up and the rest of our D group are all only good at the their position and that's defense!

2) He was able to excite me and most of the other Pred fans with his fights as maybe he wasn't the greatest fighter around but man he did make some players look dumb as he could take some players down and like I said before he's not really experienced.

So yeah I'd love to have Z back as I already miss him and next year when our defense only has a few points you guys who partied cause Zidlicky was gone will be praying to have him back!

Thanks Folks

Peace Out!

And when we have 50% less bad defensive decisions and 50% less turnovers by our D, I'll be even more thankful that Poile is a genius and that he got rid of him less than a day after his NTC expired.

No way we miss Zidlicky. Suter will score more, Weber will score more and Koistinen will score more and we will allow less. Don't judge Ryan Jones until you see him play.

I'm curious if we'll keep Koist or not. Everyone says Franson is ready and offensively minded. Any chance he is in mind for filling some of that gap Z is leaving too?

If we have a healthy Weber all season, expect a 40 point campaign (15 g). He will ride the point all night long, and maybe the contract will give Suter some confidence to truly carry the puck into the O-zone, which is always good. Couple that with Hamhuis' 25 points per season and Koistinen putting up 35 points (he had 17 in 45ish games), we have a pretty offensive minded defense. AND, way fewer dumb penalties.

Well arwilson529 I see Franson coming in if somehow we can get rid of de Vries. I mean if we can get Koistinen, Suter

Fights? Zidlicky? What fights?

No kidding. (On the "fights"). He only had one 5-minute major and zero misconducts all of last season. He is "no contact" kind of guy when it comes to confrontations on the ice.

hahahaha i mean sure Z led our team wiht poitns but look at koistinen. hes gunna be so good next year when he plays a full season same with Weber. Our D is gunna be fine we just have to haave some offense which you were sorta right isn't gunna be from a college player but i eman he is 24 so ill see what he brings to the table first

At first. I didn't like to see Zids traded, but looking back it was about the only like they could do to free up the D. Plus it gave us some cap space to work with if needed.I agree with you guys... if we can get VK signed and ready to go I look for only good things. As I said in another post... I just hope the arbitration doesn't make it to the actual hearing.
