Sabres / Lightning preview

Posted 11:45 AM ET | Comments 0
The Sabres are back in action tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning. They are looking to rebound from their pathetic perfomance aginst the Senators.

How the Teams Stack Up:

Power Play
Buffalo: 21.6% - 7th in the league
Tampa Bay: 10.8% - 29th in the league

Penalty Kill
Buffalo: 90.2% - 4th in the league
Tampa Bay: 84.3% - 11th in the league

Goals Scored per Game
Buffalo: 3.00
Tampa Bay: 1.75 (dead last)

Goaltending
Ryan Miller: 1.60 GAA .940 Save%
Mike Smith: 2.11 GAA .942 Save%

Team leaders
Buffalo:
8G Vanek
7A Afinogenov
11Pts Vanek

Tampa Bay:
5G Lecavalier
4A Prospal/St. Louis
6Pts Lecavalier

This one likes to be favored towards the Sabres with an edge in special teams and scoring. Both goalies are off to terrific starts in the 2008-09 campaign and either one could steal this one for their team. This is only the 3rd game on the road for TB but they are coming off a big win in Toronto on Tuesday carried by Lecavalier.

If Buffalo can keep the big guns in check tonight this should be another one in the win column. They need to lock down their defense again and wait for their chances. My Prediction: Buffalo - 4 Tampa Bay - 2
