9-5-3 21pts H(5-3-1) A(4-2-2)

Week 5. What a disappointment. 1-2 with Miller making an appearance in all 3. What happened to Patrick Lalime? 6 goals against on 23 shots. Miller was not a lot better. 7 goals against in just over 2 games.

So we picked up 2 more points in the standings and now sit at 6th place in the East, 3 points out of 8-10th.

According to HB fantasy point production:

1st star: Jason Pominville 30 pts
2nd star: Ryan Miller 29 pts
3rd star: Connolly/Mair 23 pts

Underachievers of the week.
Rivet -3 pts
Spacek -4 pts

Thomas Vanek is still in his little slump. Only 1G this week putting him at 13G in 17 GP. Still good enough for a tie for 1rst in the NHL with Semin. We need him to get on the scoreboard some more this week to lead the team out of its funk. A couple of weeks ago Miller was on top of the league with his stats. Now he is 11th in GAA and 11th in Sv%. What happened to our new highly touted defense first system. Did we throw it out the window?

Upcoming games:
Wednesday @ Boston(10-3-4)24pts(5-1-1 at home)
Friday vs Philly(7-6-4)18pts(4-2-3 on the road)
Saturday vs NY Islanders(6-9-2)14pts(3-3-1 on the road)

Notable no shows in the point column this week:
Afinogenov, Kotalik, Stafford
0pts, -8, 6PM, 13 shots combined

Stat of the week:
Vanek -5, Roy -6, Paille +1
Lalime 7.961GAA, .739Sv%

Stat of the year:
RW are a combined -14 on the year.
(Pominville, Kotalik, Afinogenov, Stafford, Kaleta)

Stats say we need 94 pts for a playoff spot:
21 down, 73 to go

Week 4 brought us dismal defense and a horrible team effort. Will they right the ship in week 5?

I see that Lindy does not rotate his goalies very well. Lalime should not sit almost a month. But the real problems with Buffalo is not the goal tending, it's up front and on the blue line! It is essentially the same team for the last four years and it is not good enough, big enough or tough enough for today's game. Where are we going with Stafford, Roy, Connelly and Max? How long do you stay with Lydman and Tallinder? We need more Adam Mairs and Craig Rivets then we do "Little Boy" Derek Roy thinking he is a magician with the puck. Or Max rushing up ice and losing control of the puck. Come one, get bigger, nastier and hungrier. What does Hecht bring to the table anyway? Connelly 70 games in three years...bye bye!

Punch, it sounds like you are ready to blow up the team and start over. Remember how good they looked at the beginning of the season when they all bought in to the defense first system. Why do they not want to play this way? Do they think their way is better? I believe a little tweaking and a better team effort will go a long way in fixing the current problems.
