Sabres week 6 report

Posted 10:20 AM ET | Comments 1
9-8-3 21pts H(5-5-1) A(4-3-2)

Week 6. Wow, just where are the Sabres headed? 0-3 this week, and I do not know what to think of this team anymore. We gave up 14 goals and only scored 6. The lone bright spot of the week was AHL callup Mark Mancari. Scored a goal and was a +/- of 0. We pick up 0 points in the standings and now sit at 9th place in the East, out of the playoffs if they started today.

According to HB fantasy point production:

1st star: Thomas Vanek 34 pts
2nd star: Derek Roy 25 pts
3rd star: Jason Pominville 21 pts

Underachievers of the week.
Paille 2 pts
Numminen -5 pts

Thomas Vanek lit the lamp 2 more times this week. This puts him at 15G in 20GP. He once again sits atop the league in goals. He also leads the Sabres in points with 19 which sadly is only good enough for 28th best in the league.. What is there to say about Miller. His stats are dropping faster than gas prices. Was it that long ago he was in the top 3 in both GAA and Sv%. Now he is 17th in GAA and 22nd in Sv%. Is this on him or is it the wonderful play from our “defensive” players. I do have to say that the team did look better in their last 2 losses, but that does not help them in the standings. They need wins and they need them now. Unfortunately they have to play Boston, Pittsburgh, and Montreal in their next 3 games. 3 of the top 5 teams in the East.

Upcoming games:
Wednesday vs Boston(14-3-4)32pts(7-2-3 on the road)
Friday vs Pittsburgh(12-5-3)27pts(6-2-1 on the road)
Saturday @ Montreal(11-5-3)25pts(5-2-1 at home)

Notable no show in the point column this week:
MacArthur, 0pts -1 2PM 10shots

Stat of the week:
Numminen -5 (the team combined for a -26)
Miller 5.345GAA, .795Sv%

Stat of the year:
3 players in the + column
Paille +1, Connolly +1, Lydman +4

Stats say we need 94 pts for a playoff spot:
21 down, 73 to go

Week 6 started with a total collapse on defense and ended with getting back to team defense. Unfortunately this did not result in any wins. Good luck turning it around in week 7 with a tough schedule.

Following a quiet 1st period which saw no offense whatsoever, the vidmate Juniors kicked into high gear as Pat O'Keefe and Matt Fillier would score goals 3 minutes apart late in the second.
