Good God, what is happening to the NHL? Suspensions for "sending a message"? This has been part of the game since the beginning of time. What exactly is "sending a message"? The ultimate purpose of every hockey fight is to "send a message". Will fighting result in automatic suspensions?

Don't get me wrong, I believe that players that use their sticks as club weapons in an attempt to injure should be suspended. Carcillo in my view used his glove and not his stick in the incident, and should not have been suspended.

The NHL has opened a book that shouldn't have been opened. A pandora's box you might say.

Is a face wash with a glove an attempt to send a message? It sure is! Was Billy Guerin attempting to send a message with his altercation with Brandon Coborn? He sure was!

The NHL is guilty of over-meddling in certain parts of the game they have no business!
In the immortal words of Jim Carr, "THIS IS HOCKEY"!

i forget the habs player who went after kessel after the goal, but if carcillo gets suspended, he should too...and i doubt the league will even review it. its a joke.

I think the point is that the dirty move came when there would be no real purpose served by a penalty, which was warranted. I think what the NHL is looking at doing is that players are not going to get away with juvenile antics by simply waiting until the end of the game. If the justification they are using is 'sending a message' so be it.

I totally agree with you Flyershockey... Lapierre should be investigated if they are going to pursue this vein of thought... Personally, I didn't know what Kessel had done and was thinking if Carcillo got something for it, Lapierre definitely should.

You guys realize that Carcillo actually punched Talbot in the head right? What Lapierre did was dumb, of course, but it's not even close to what Carcillo did...

If that's why he got suspended, then Cammalleri should too, no question, ASP.EDIT: 'Nuff Said

Suspension is not warranted.

The League does not like the Flyers. They are the team to hate through and through. It is what it is. Flyer fans either learn to accept it or root for another team. This fact not a whine. The league has turned into a Pond hockey league.

I agree with you aightwebang17, Cammalleri should be suspended too...

I agree with this blog. The NHL is over meddling. NHL playoff's are the greatest not because of high scoring or pretty plays. It's the intensity, and yes the Physicality of these series. This no message sending is stupid. C'mon you old ladies, let em play!!! BTW Carcillo should have been a penalty, but I don't know about a suspension. Bit of an overeaction really.

I think Carcilo was suspended because of timing..With so few seconds left. He did it becuase he would get away with it..He might get a penalty but for what...2 seconds in the box? He was suspended because the NHL does not want players to think that they can do what they want at the end of a game.

waaaaaaaa......the league hates the Flyers....wwwwaaaaaaaa.....Bettman wants Crosby in the finals......waaaaaaaaaa.......Crosby goal didnt count....waaaaaa....uhhh...youre not good enough...deal with it

I have a solution: SUSPEND EVERYONE! Then the Flyers can stop complaining and the Pens can stop whining.

I jest. Carcillo deserved something. Just as Lapierre deserves something... you can't jump a guy for scoring in the waning seconds of the game.

It's because it's the Flyers and it's the Penguins. Heaven forbid if you go near a Penguin, you get penalized (hell, you can't get within 5 feet of Cindy without getting penalized). We're the most hated team in the league and always will be. I say let the boys be boys and let them play. It's hockey not little league.

Lucic now called to the office now too. This league is a complete joke right now. I may have to stop watching the NHL now because of it.

Laperriere didn't go after Kessel, if you watch the replay he was about to skate away and Kessel put up his arms, so Laperriere then went at him. Was not a Dale Hunter type play.

You know, this is bringing back memories of one of my first blogs here..."NHL=No Hit League." I agree with rshnk, this is getting ridiculous.
