You know what? I don’t care how tall these guys are or what they weigh, I’d like to see a d-core that can skate. Ryan O’Byrne and Hal Hill barely can. The Canadiens current win streak has seen them get grossly outplayed and a big part of the problem is their slow defence.

The Hamilton Bulldogs, in contrast, are allowing less than 25 shots per game over the last few. And I would wager that Mathieu Carle and PK Subban are playing a big part in the ‘Dogs bastion.

Sure these guys have made it to where they are based on their offensive capabilities. And I wouldn’t question their skill in that department. What will ultimately keep them in the NHL when given the opportunity is their defensive game, an area they would be working on while in the AHL.

I say let’s give them a shot. Worst case scenario the Habs give up 40 plus shots in a game and they get sent back down after gaining some valuable NHL experience. And really, this team has given up 186 shots in four games.

It wouldn’t hurt them to bring up a couple young defence-men that can skate, move the puck, and play defence (if Guy Boucher has taught them to do so).

Sit Hal Gill and Ryan O’Byrne and let’s see what this team can do.

Markov Hamrlik
Spacek Subban
Gorges Carle

Why would you sit our best penalty killer? Why would you ruin Subban's AHL developement by forcing him to perform while still young work towards his contract kicking in? Why would you pair Markov with Hamr when Markov plays worse next to players of his style (and always has). Mara's the only D-Man who's been -bad-, it's backchecking for the forwards and winning one on one battles that need to change. Remember very few of the oppertunities given are good ones.

I don't think playing PK in the NHL would ruin his development. I put Hamrlik with Markov because it would give Spacek the chance to play on his natural side on the second unit.

When you have Mara,O'byrn,MAB and Hal Gill as 4 out of 6,you can't expect much. And as good as Markov has been,he isn't 100% to where he should be.
