Its official: Its been one of the wackiest quarters in NHL history.

After the most tragic summer in the NHL in recent memory, maybe even ever, we have indeed had quite the first quarter of the NHL season. The Minnesota Wild are 2nd in the NHL, The "revamped" Columbus Blue Jackets are in last (<-- worst prediction I've ever made), Phil Kessel is leading the league in points, The big, nasty, Bruins had the worst Cup hangover EVER, Kari Lethonen and Brian Elliott are the best goalies in the NHL, Jason Garrison has the most goals among all defensemen, Claude Giroux has budded into a superstar sooner rather than later, and we've seen more then 10 suspensions already.

What isn't out of the norm, is the fact that Sidney Crosby, for some reason, cannot, will not, and will never be disciplined in any way, shape or form. The word 'hypocrite' has been thrown towards Crosby since his obviously blatant hit to the head of Ottawa's Nick Foligno last night. It has been called an elbow, but it is clearly more of a punch or a wrist to the face or whatever. If you can't already tell, this paragraph is complete sarcasm. Haven't looked at it since I watched it live, but if my memory serves me correctly, Foligno initiated the scrum, and Sidney was penalized on the play. Enough is enough. I thought we were supposed to enjoy hockey, and not complain about it.

Happy Hockey,
Habsteen26.

P.S,
Stay tuned, JUST reached an agreement with another MYhockeybuzz blogger to co-write a series of blogs! Still working on the details, but they should be coming your way soon.

**I want to dedicate this blog to a young man from my school who drowned yesterday morning. His boat capsized while on a hunting trip and his Dad and Uncle were the only ones who emerged from the lake. I played hockey with this kid for 10 years and talked to him the day before he died.. its a very sad time. R.I.P Mitch.**

shots like that happen all the time... was it needed? no. was it uncalled for? yes. but the fact is, if it wasnt crosby that did it, we wouldnt be talking about it. so i dont see why this is an issue. to suggest that he should be suspended or fined for a minor forearm-elbow to the head is pushing it a bit.

Thank you. I also think its ridiculous the way everyone is moaning and groaning about it. Its not soccer. This is freakin' hockey. Let's keep it that way.

BUT, I am going to complain about how Pittsburgh won tonight. That was COMPLETE BS. Price had the puck covered for 2 seconds. Should have been a whistle.

Yes, the goal was BS, but so was the lack of a 5 minute major for the hit on Letang.

I actually don't think Pacioretty was at fault. If you watch it again, you'll notice he was looking at the puck the whole time and only moved his arm to get a better grip on his stick. Sure it was nasty and to the head but I think a fine is a reasonable discipline if any at all.

To me it was a blind side hit with the primary point of contact being the head. Letang was in a vulnerable position and had already shot the puck. If you watch it again Pacioretty leaves his feet and follows through with his elbow.

that is the same kind of hit that cooke put on savard and that richards put on booth. illegal hit and made contact with nothing but the head. i expect a suspension. as for the game, there were a lot of bad calls both ways. habs lost because they got outworked and outplayed in the last 10 minutes plus OT. Habs had their chances. Penguins worked well and Price played out of his mind. still was a fun game to watch

I agree with all of the above.

You guys really think that after what happened to him, Pacioretty would go out head hunting? Sure it was a hit to the head, but it was not on purpose. He was clearly in pursue of the puck.
November 27, 2011 12:49 PM ET | Delete
you're right. i never said it was on purpose, Max has never been that kind of player. had it been PK Subban, then i think more people would be angry. regardless of whether or not it was on purpose, those kind of hits need to be eliminated from the game and that warrants a suspension. hopefully it is a 1 or 2 game suspension, nothing major. like you said, max knows better than that and he isnt that type of player.
